Hope Kozari will be ok, that was awful
I don't think anybody has seen that before. Ref was out cold before he hit the ice which is why his head hit ice so hard. It was like a hit on a defenseless receiver in football except both player and ref just collided and were both defenseless. Scary stuff and I hope both of them are ok and back in no time.

Is it me or is this ABC broadcast very dark? I have to put the brightness settings on my tv up

PK Subban is the only thing that redeems ESPN’s shitty production value for NHL games.

There, I said it.
Wischusen, Meleczko and PK. Thats it

I've been checked out of Devils hockey for a bit. Something that hasnt happened since I started following the team but I just looked at the standings and noticed were below Buffalo. Although standings change every night, its been a miserable season.

The first time you watch that it doesn't look so bad, but after watching it again and again that looks pretty scary when you get smashed like that by a 200+ pound guy and you've got minimal equipment/protection.

The fact that we've been behind Washington, Philly and Detroit just about all year long (all inferior teams to us) is really the sad part.

The fact that those 3 teams have been in playoff spots all year long or right on the bubble at worst should give us hope that we can turn this around next year.

This is purely hindsight and Ruff needed to go (at season's end, barring a late playoff berth) but I still think we could have had 4-7 more points right now if we didn't fire Ruff and let him have a crack with the two new goalies.

We didn't play that great under Ruff, particularly after the new calendar year, but we've been bottom feeder bad under the bull frog. Even with goalie upgrades.

Pastrnak is a demigod tier hockey player, playing with garbage players in last 2 years. Boston is nothing without Pastrnak at this point he is doing it all by himself. Pasta and Kuch are best wingers in the world and it is not even close, they are in their own category.

Indeed

It depends how much you think Green made changes to this team, I think they're legit playing Ruff's stupid system so it wouldn't have mattered firing him. I wouldn't have wanted him getting a fluke run like this and keeping him for another year when we knew he was a massive problem anyway

I'm more convinced Green is playing his own system (which is even more dreadful than anything Ruff can imagine) which was a disaster in Vancouver.

We look way too reminiscent of his 21-22 Canucks that were 8-15-2 under him before he was fired. That team had above league average goaltending under him to amass that abomination of a record. Just like we do.

Boqvist was the exact reason the Devils were good in 22-23, the speed alone was worth keeping him. Carolina series pushed this team backwards, I'll keep saying until I'm red in the face

Cheap, two way young player who can skate. That one pissed me off from Fitz

They got PTSD from the Carolina series, Toffoli/Nosek and all the bums in the bottom 6 for the speed we lost was always gonna be noticeable especially with the trash goaltending/coaching to truly compound this roster.

I was not at all high on Boqvist early on.

I finally started coming around to him probably in early 2022 and I still wasn't sold on him yet.

However, he's definitely one of those speedy guys that we could have used this year.

Nosek should have definitely been better than him or at least equal, if he hadn't gotten injured, missed all that time and then came back really bad.

Tierney has been a disaster and I could have told you that years ago. Only back then he was able to score some points. Now he doesn't do that at all, all the while being an absolute drain and averaging a shot on goal about once every other game for the last two years.

Just refusing to qualify him was so insanely stupid.
What was his qualifying offer? I understand not wanting to pay him more than a certain amount, which would be an acceptable rationale to letting him walk. I'm just not sure what it was.

I liked Boqvist a lot, but I’m fairly positive that he wasn’t qualified because it was likely he wanted another opportunity to begin with.

Knowing how things shook out with losing McLeod and all the injuries we had, losing him definitely stung. He’s a solid player, versatile, good skater and good hands.

Yea I don’t think he wanted to come back anyway

At the time, Boqvist didn’t have a spot here because our forward corps looked very deep, and there were better options for his role. Letting him walk was a reasonable move.

We couldn’t have predicted that half our lineup would get injured, and the other half would underperform.
