I remember thinking how ugly looking he was then.

Now I'm the same age he was here (actually, I think I'm about 2 years older?) and combined with the way he looks now, he don't look so bad here. He had a really sweet Axl Rose or David Lee Roth style weave (he didn't have long hair like them though) going on in the late 80s/90s, before reappearing as a Devils assistant coach in 2002 where he was as bald as Darren Pang.

He actually don't look much older now than he did then, probably because he's gained A LOT of weight. His face is very full, which slows the aging process down for most people.

I wish I could have some more fat on my face and a little less on my chest, stomach and thighs.

Oh wow...I wasn't even thinking beyond New Jersey

Nothing exists to me beyond the Devil's :)
Ah, gotcha. His Devils trades sure were good but its better to get an idea how he is as a GM nowadays to look at his most recent tenure due to the game and league changing so much.

I think he's still a fine GM for a team in win now mode. Which the Isles are not anymore. But thats their problem, I wish nothing but good to Lou.

Nepotism ties the game.
I actually thought he would have a more impressive statline than he did. I probably just thought he was a little bit better just because he scored a goal in 2 of his last 3 games (including today) and the first one was against us last week.

He's also a little bit older than I thought he was. He'll be 25 before the end of the month and he didn't even play an NHL regular season game until literally 3 months ago.

Wasn't he on an AHL contract and Lou signed him to an NHL contract in the middle of the year like right before he made his debut? I remember there being talk on here about it.

I met Mac in Garden State Mall while I was working at Record World... I think it was 1989...he was good looking back then

Meant to post this before the Isles tied it after people were surprised Varlamov is the starter, but it auto merged into a previous post that was long enough, so I was waiting for the 3 minute auto merge period to pass.

Varlamov has basically been the Islanders starter for the last 2 or 3 weeks.

I wouldn't have any clue of this if I didn't review the goals every night. I would have no clue who the Islanders are playing in net because the only Islanders game I think I've actually watched in the last quite a while was our season finale

Yeah he played 67 games for Bridgeport this year

The shots on the TV screen were 7 to 5 two minutes ago....now they are 6 to 6....Brendan Shannagins

Say what you want about Lou but he hasn't made many "bad" trades.

In fact we've probably seen more questionable trades in the last 8 years than we did in the previous 25 under Lou.
I think my complaint would be how conservative he was. That mentality doesn't work in the cap era. Lou didn't make bad trades but he made tons of "Tuomo Ruutu for Loktionov and a 3rd" trades that accomplished very little while slowly eroding the draft capital that might bring in young, cost-controlled talent. Combine that with a decade of inept drafting and you get the classic Lamoriello ticking time bomb recipe: the oldest team in the league that doesn't have anything to look forward to and will bottom out at any moment.

He wasn't bad looking in the 80s and 90s. I do think he was doing something with his hair, at least by the 90s. Because it kind of looked fake (like a weave) and then it went overnight. It was pretty thin looking by the end of his time playing for us, but it was all gone by the time he came back as a coach in 2002.

I don't like the bald look. Most men don't look good with it at all. Especially really pale guys or dudes with certain shaped heads. I think a hat looks much better. The biggest problem is that NHL coaches are not allowed to wear hats. And hats are sometimes uncomfortable when it's really hot out and they start to smell. Gross.

Some guys look better bald than others. I can't imagine Vin Diesel letting his hair grow. And he didn't even lose his hair, he just voluntarily has been shaving it as far back as I've known who he was.

Ken Daneyko looks okay with a bald head. I think maybe it's because he's got a bit of a tan on him.

We never did more of those throw away second and third round trades than in recent years....micro Mueller, Beau Bennett, Johnsson, Johansson, Gusev, Grabner...I know there are more that's just off the top of my head

I've noticed A LOT this year particularly around the league that shots seem to be shaven off fairly frequently after a couple of minutes.

I've seen so many times this year a team end the period with a certain number of shots, then they take one away before the start of the next period. Sometimes even after a TV timeout or a minute or two later they'll shave one off.

I don't know if that's because they now have extra statisticians making sure the shots are counted a little more accurately or what. It seems to be a thing this year and I've noticed it in all different buildings around the league.

The Ruutu one was terrible, because he was already declining by the time we got him and he had 2 years left on his deal even after that? And he got even worse after that year. The only time I think he was even a useful player was that first quarter of a season that we had him for.

He was absolutely and utterly finished after that.

By the way, did the Long Island media ever ask that worthless NOBODY CHUMP Cizikas what he thinks of the caoching change? Since he was the only one that seemed to have such a problem with the fans chanting for the last coach to get fired and told them not to come to the game if they're gonna say stuff like that.

Or did they forget about it because no one is really gonna remember what an IRRELEVANT BUM like Cizikas has to say about anything?

I hope they f***in chant ''WE WERE RIIIGHHTTT!!'' at him.

And I didn't even have a strong opinion on them needing a coaching change. It just burned my ass when a player said that about their fanbase. If one of OUR players said that they'd be public enemy number one around here. Taylor Hall still gets booed here for criticizing the fans at the end of his time here and taunting them with the ear cupping the next game. And he didn't even tell anybody to stay home if they're gonna boo.

Yeah and it's a shame cuz he was one of my fave players in his prime. The Devils could really use a prime Ruutu or Clowe type player. It would also help keep 5 minute goons like McDermid out of the lineup.

I really don't like Lundqvist and I am not sure why I can't stand him so much....

I think it's the air of superiority he projects without ever having done shit

Jennifer Garner looks like a real life Disney princess.

I don't think our team could survive the physical play of this game.

TNT is showing a re-run of a mediocre Ben Affleck movie instead of the playoffs. I’m watching it on Tru TV a network name that’s obvious on the lips of tens and tens of people. But sure NHL, support a game where clutching grabbing holding and interference is rewarded. I’m sure the kids will tune in in droves to watch Staal grab Nelson as soon as the puck is dropped and Pelech will wrap his arms around whatever Cane is in front of the net. Just riveting hockey.
