Wait so they ruled that it was a high stick but since I’m the neutral zone that can’t be overruled, wtf kind of logic is that. Typical NHL
That doesn’t surprise me. There are certain things that can only waive off a goal if either the offensive or defensive team do them in the offensive zone. If the other side does it then it doesn’t waive off the goal.

I think they all talk about the infraction being in the offensive zone but that’s just going off my memory.

You’re right, that’s not the rule. If you touch it with a high stick and you or a teammate touch it next, play stops. It doesn’t matter which zone you’re in.

The only rule where something like that happens is the hand pass rule. It’s legal in your defensive zone, but nowhere else.

Maybe he’s confusing the two?
He's always confused.

Ray Ferraro said it so I'll take that with a grain of salt.

I think the Refs just DECIDED *NOT* to allow a Big Market team (by orders of Uncle Gary) to go down 0-2 to Florida.

I don’t think the conspiracy theory is necessary to explain it. They just missed the high stick in real time, it happens. It’s not reviewable, so there’s nothing to be done about it.

Complain about the refs being blind, not that they’re crooked.

Don't trust this Panthers team one bit
I really don't either because Igor >>>>>>>>>>>> Bob

And also Lavi >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Maurice

Paul Maurice is USELESS and probably always has been. He's good for nothing other than his press conferences, where he sounds like a drunk asshole.

They're funny and entertaining, but I don't trust teams with him as head coach to win a cup. Perhaps the Panthers are talented enough to do it, but he's a SANDBAG to the Panthers or any team. It will be LITTLE CREDIT to him if they win anything.

He's not the coach they need. His system sucks and sandbags them and it looks like the gameplan right now is to win 1-0 or 2-1.

It's almost like they don't believe they can beat this team 4-2 or 5-1.

there are only a few specific things that can be reviewed to waive off a goal.

The Devils were victims of this a couple of years ago where a play should have been waived dead, Devils were scored on, and everyone agreed the play should have been blown dead but the specific instance wasn’t part of the overturn a goal rule.
Yeah and that High-Stick is one of them (or should be one of them).

Whatever....

The refs and league can acknowledge it was a high stick but if the rule says only high sticks in the offensive zone can overturn a goal then it doesn’t matter if it was a high stick or not.

Then it SHOULD be.

Anyway, I don't know why I'm so amped up about this.

It's not like the Devils are in the playoffs or anything.....

Glad the Oilers won Game 1 against Dallas, though.

Rooting for Henrique (whenever he can come back from injury)

That ruined the rest of the night. What really sucks is, Florida going “home.” I’m sure they’re used to it, but especially in the playoffs, it just sucks.

The issue is how long do you go back? If you missed a high stick 2 minutes ago and the play had gone back and fourth 3 times but then a goal is scored should you rewind the whole 2 minutes?

The league decided that would be silly so overturning a goal would only be based on things that happen in the offensive zone during that possession.

The rule has lots of holes but I think you actually make things worse if you try to expand where things can get reviewed.

I don't really agree with this, Lavi just played a pylon after their first test of adversity all spring and he embarrassed himself. The Panthers will be fine, just need more from Tkachuk/Reinhart.

Gonna be a home game for the Rags with all of the snowbirds down there. Plus it'll be cheaper for their scum fanbase to fly down there and go to the games than it would be to go to one game at their own shitty over priced arena

Yeah, I agree that was a dumb decision by Lavi.

Still, I don't understand why Maurice is so coveted. He's the only active NHL head coach that was already an NHL head coach when I was still a teenager lol. And he didn't have almost a two decade lapse of being a head coach like Bowness.

I think the Panthers are better than Maurice (they would have been better under Brunette, I'm sure that will draw some laughs lol) and they also need to believe they can win something that isn't a low scoring affair. Their last 4 straight games have been 2-1 or 2-0 either way. The last two against the Bruins were like that. They lost game 5 and won game 6 on a very late in regulation goal that made it 2-1.

The Rangers also haven't been able to really ring the score up in this series like they did on Andersen or the JOKE Capitals.

The snowbirds have (mostly) gone back home for the year.

Though there's plenty of Rangers fans that live down there full time that will be in attendance. I didn't really notice an extremely audible Bruins presence for their series against them and there's plenty of them down here. I didn't really notice much of a Lightning presence in the first round, and it's very easy for all of their fans to get from down here to Sunrise in a just a few hours drive.

The OT winner wasn't that bad, but it was a clean shot from quite a bit out and the guy that scored it is a bum.

Yeah, the one thing I do agree with is the Panthers win in spite of Maurice than because of him imo. I don't see him doing much, that team seems to be all players and the coaches are just figure heads. A bit similar to how Lindy was here in NJ the past couple of years.

Nah, I think the Panthers fans will do fine. Second straight year their team is this damn good and they know they can't allow it to be 50-50 or 60-40 for their team's sake.

Disappointed I get home late and see the Rags won. Best of 5 now. Florida will need to step it up but both games it seemed could of went either way. I still think Florida will still get it done. Would be sweet if they win the next 3 straight but even if it takes 7 it will be all good.

Yeah, I'm not too worried just yet; Rangers came out strong to start last night, but the Panthers answered after about 10 minutes and were the better team most of the rest of regulation, but clearly tired out in OT because man, the puck was in their end nearly the entire time.

Still, a tired-looking Panthers team took until OT to lose a 2-1 game, and I felt they pretty much played a perfect stereotypical playoff road game in game 1 and really looked like the better team. Now they get to go home and have home ice in what's effectively a best of five, I'll take it.

Losing McLeod was the worst thing about this past season. We need to revamp our entire 4th line. Waive Bastian.

Rangers got outscored 4-2 over the first two games of the ECF despite being the best regular season team and having home ice advantage. I won’t say they’re cooked because anything’s possible with Shesterkin vs Bobrovsky, but they’re gonna have a tough time.
