I’m actually almost mad they broke Shesterkin’s shutout with 35 seconds left, after they gave up the empty netter.

I’m glad the kraken are kinda good

Cranking established teams is great (when it happens out west)
I was told their defense is so bad that it made Grubauer worse because they’re an expansion team.

How is Martin Jones doing better there? I know it’s not sustainable and I expect Jones to be Jones before the season ends, but this is even more damning on Grubauer.

Grubauer was good on Washington before he got to Colorado, but it’s pretty evident that Colorado makes their goalies look better. Grubauer had a negative GSAx most of his years in Colorado. Georgiev somehow got good there and Kuemper looked like he was running out of steam his last year in Arizona, before one more really good year, which now looks to be possibly headed downhill in Washington.

Sharks gonna shark

40 saves out of Reimer though.

Man deserves better
The Sharks are arguably worse Arizona. What a disaster. And even if they aren’t worse than Arizona, imagine Arizona’s brass telling their fans that they’re gonna be competing this year.

They need to retain some of Karlsson’s contract like they did with Burns and ship him outta there while they can. He’s gonna rot in that shit hole if he doesn’t beg to leave.

They’re gonna be a bad team until he’s about 45 years old, maybe even older.

Yes, I’m in full RangerDoggo mode with the Sharks, only it’s actually justified.

And no, I’m not gonna jump ship or anything like he did, just in extreme pessimism mode when it comes to that franchise. They’re in worse shape than we were when Lou left. Karlsson is kind of like their Cory Schneider. They should have shipped Hertl out and got another first rounder and probably a bit more. Hertl is a dumb dumb for re-signing there. He’ll be as old as Joe Thornton is now when they’re good again.

To Lou's credit, he didn't leave a ton of long term boat anchor contracts. Zajac looked like a problem, but then he reverted to form.

Zajac's deal was still bad and wouldn't have been easy to move for real assets.

Some of their older guys are still good. I think Couture is still a good player, but he’s really not a great player anymore. I’m afraid Hertl might not be that good anymore and he definitely threw his career away signing that extension.

I always assumed your Sharks fandom was more or less tied to whether your contact/friend was still there or not.

I've been a fan since I think 99-00, so I will continue to root for them forever as my clear cut second favorite team. I don't have a third favorite or beyond.

The Avalanche were kind of my second favorite team from 95 to 99, but that was only because Claude Lemieux and I wanted to root for a team in the 96 playoffs when we didn't make it. I didn't root for them at all after 99 when he was traded back here.

I probably gave the wrong idea when I brought up the name RangerDoggo, as he'll forever be associated with team traitors and a fairweather fan that jumps shit. I didn't mean that because I was going to go traitor on the Sharks, but because I felt like I was giving a RangerDoggo-like rant on the Sharks, like the ones he gave on his last night here on the way out the door. I felt like I was tearing into the franchise and how big of a joke they currently are, kind of like he did with his ''Culture of failure'' comments and how big of a joke the Devils franchise is and all that.

Although, I am taking it a bit personally that the Sharks brass and ownership want us to believe that the current roster is good enough to compete for anything more than Bedard. Most teams don't come out and say ''We're gonna suck, that's the plan. Prepare for lots of losing, because that's what we're going to be doing'', but the Sharks almost did the opposite of that, without blatantly coming out and saying ''We're going to be winning, it's gonna be great. We're excited to compete this year''.

I've been saying the whole time that they're a Bedard contender and I'm pretty sure they were even the last team to get their first win this year or was that Vancouver? If they weren't to last then I'm pretty sure they were the second to last.

Even stupid Nashville couldn't beat anybody other than them for a while there. They had those two wins in Prague and couldn't win on North American ice after the trip.

Zajac's deal wasn't the best and he definitely wasn't worth assets because he was already 30 years old and signed for however many more years (half a dozen or so) after that, but I do think he gave us some good years after that. Mostly until his final year, with the exception of that year that he was injured in the offseason and came back and scored like 2 or 3 points in his first 20 games. He also came back quicker than the initial prognosis from what I remember. He didn't have a nasty decline like many other players do at that age.

I'd say similar about Greene. He was on a contract that was really worth no assets at the time Lou left and he was already 32-33 and signed for 5 more years, but he gave us a couple good years after Lou left.

I think the only players we had that were worth anything at the time Lou left were obviously Schneider, Larsson and Henrique. And I think we all agree that we overmaxed Larsson's value out and Henrique was a fair hockey trade for an even caliber player at a more important position.

Even at the time Lou left though, Cory was starting year 1 of a 7 year deal and already 29, so I'm not sure we could have really gotten the farm for him, but he was one of the very best at the position in the entire league as of then, so you probably could get something decent for him. I do wonder if management felt that he was worth more to us than whatever he would have brought back though, only because he was in just year one of a 7 year deal and already 29.

Buffalo seems to be somewhat suffering from last year’s Devils-Itis.

Their numbers don’t look too bad, but they have a very ugly team save percentage. Comrie was always a huge gamble, as he struggled to even make the league before he was 26 and had just 20 good games in a sheltered and sparsely used role behind one of the few workhorse goalies in Winnipeg.

Anderson is the oldest player in the NHL. He hasn’t performed badly to this point, but give it a few more games. He’s mostly been used as the backup, until Comrie was getting blown up so much that they kind of had to start playing Anderson more. I expect those numbers to regress to what he’s been the last 5 years after a few more games or less.

The Finnish kid could be decent. He got blown up last night. I didn’t think he played that badly, but it’s just one game. I think I’d roll the dice on him before a 41 year old that’s been bad for 5 years now.

Terry doesn't care and neither does Kevyn From Accounting. Other than the Miller game I have no plans to go up to Buffalo this season and will not spend another dime on this team in the way of tickets or merchandise until they decide to start acting like a serious NHL organization.
The Sabres had some nice momentum after moving Eichel and the young players seem to have bought in behind Tuch who is vocal about wanting to be in Buffalo. What’s happened this season? Are they just unlucky or is the coaching really bad? They have plenty of talent and while I expect uneven play as such a young team they have cratered farther than expected.

Awful coaching with zero defensive structure whatsoever. They are essentially being coached the way you would a mites team only at the NHL level. The organization somehow thinks guys getting destroyed on a nightly basis is "growing" and "learning".

So they are a year or so behind NJ. They have talent and will get a decent structure at some point. It will turn around.

Bob is a reanimated corpse at this point.

It should be Knight's net from here on out, unless it's a back to back or the rare non-back to back in a heavy schedule where there are no back to backs.

He's the biggest thing that's gonna prevent Florida from winning a cup if they can't win one or make the finals in the next 3 or 4 years.

And not even because of his performance, but his disgusting contract keeps them from being able to spend dollars elsewhere.

The coach is quite good actually, the team isn’t good yet. Them being way under the salary cap is big sign of that.

The goaltending is killing them again, Comrie’ hot start was short lived and now he’s out with an injury until December.

They had/have a bunch of injuries on defense which was pretty young/underwhelming to begin with.

Samuelsson played 5 games and is still out with a knee injury. He really helps out on the defensive end on the top pair with Dahlin.

Jokiharju just got back after being out for almost a month.

Those are their best guys outside of the two 1OA so it hurt when they were both out.

This was a “the playoffs is too ambitious but we’re hoping the team does generally better and gets close to bubble team status” year. That really isn’t a thing. You’re either good or bad.

Their fans will be miserable but high pick in this draft isn’t the end of the world for them. They have more prospects coming in and plenty of cap space next season. My guess is that they’ll make a more forceful and successful push next season.

If the goalie went cold and they lost their two best defensive defenders that explains it pretty easily. Especially for a young team that will lose confidence.
