i don’t know if it’s vancouver’s system or what, but i wouldn’t take quinn hughes for free right now. every game i’ve seen, he’s been garbage and directly responsible for at least 1 goal scored against. defensemen have to know how to defend.

Hughes broke his nose in Game 1 (guess he's got that breakable face) and is now out with some sort of lower body injury. But yeah, he's been awful.

First the weird ESPN+ question and now this, I’m starting to think some people think Jack just celebrates random goals with stick tosses and glosses over the key OT aspect. (And the “he did it once guys” aspect.)

I find it hard to NOT cheer for the Habs D Xhekaj. Kid was workig at a Costco for shit sake and worked his way to the NHL. Kid is tough as nails. Rag dolled Kasian in a fight. Just scored his first goal. He is a meat and potatoes type D but like the kid. He also stood up for Slafkovsky after Slaf took a dirty hit (vs.Coyotes game) Xhekaj moved in from the point in the O zone to hit the player , then skated back to the point lol.

Think of the Islanders bringing back Trotz by December like we did to Lemaire in 2010. I know Lemaire wasn't fired the offseason before, but it would still be funny.

What would you do if Trotz came back to coach the Islanders by like December? It would be funny, wouldn't it?

And then they try to sell it like Trotz was taking time off because of burn out or something and he wasn't actually fired.

Haven't seen it yet, but I'm mostly caught up on all the goals up to the moment, except for any 2nd period goals so far in the current games.

Varlamov allowed a dead angle one, but it was pretty bad, as it went right through his 5-hole. It wasn't one of those shots where it beats the goalie and post through just the only bit of daylight, which I try not to give a softy of the night to when I can avoid it.

This one was bad.

It was bad. It looked like it went through his chest. Like literally went through the logo and exited out the back.

Not many games on tonight, so that's probably a pretty good bet to be softy of the night.

I'm kind of wondering why Halak was signed this offseason (so was Craig Anderson), but more ammo for my goalies are recycled more than the coaches and their reputation is hard to kill argument.

In the end, he did just enough last year to make himself finish just barely below even in both save percentage and goals saved above expected after a dreadful start where he hardly played.

His last year in Boston was pretty dreadful in GSAx and he overachieved a bit in Boston his first two years. His GSAx was never as high as his GSAA (and save percentage) his first two years in Boston. Rask had a bit of a renaissance in some of his later years there. Both of their save percentages/GSAA were better than their GSAx. That was a pretty goalie friendly team during the Cassidy years.

There is certainly enough evidence to suggest that he got better after leaving the Islanders because of the Bruins and the team. Maybe not his last year there, but that's a 35 year old goalie for you.

Goal 3 on Halak not much better. I'd say it's a pretty low chance that goals 2 and 3 beat Shesterkin today. He'd really have to be off his game.

This is either gonna get Louis called up (probably not) or result in more Shesterkin games that he otherwise wouldn't have played.

I don't think they'll be giving him a random game like this again that falls 3 days after the game before it and 2 days before the game after it. This wasn't even a back to back.

I'm actually shocked he played today. Thought maybe the Rangers had a game tomorrow. They do not.

Islanders played most of the third like they were the team trying to hold a one goal lead. They’re uh….. not good.

BUT they’re still strong defensively and they’ll win close games like this with enough opportunities and some luck.

Does ESPN+ show EVERY game ALL YEAR LONG? I mean, other than the TNT games.

Because I've been getting them every night.

Center ice is a NUCLEAR DUMPSTER FIRE this year. Some channels say Channel not available right now even though I pay for them.

Can't even get the Sharks/Flyers game on there. Absolutely disgraceful.

I'm getting it on ESPN+, which I had planned to cancel after this month as the Devils don't play on it for a while.

With Columbus sticking it to the Rangers tonight I am starting to wonder if our division isn’t going to be a lot more balanced this season. Too early to tell and let’s see what happens between us and Washington tomorrow.

But balance and parity and no one or two teams dominating would be a good thing for us. It could mean that we can hang in the playoff competition without the hundred point record.

You don’t get the games on NHL Network on ESPN+.

But other than those game and the NHL Network games you get all the rest. It is the same as the old nhl.tv package (which was basically the streaming version of Center Ice).

ESPN+ is basically center ice. You get all non-national games on there. Only TNT games, NHL Network games, and local games are not shown.

If it wasn't for local blackouts it would be perfect for me

The only reason I do center ice is because I don’t have a smart TV, nor a game system to get the games on a TV. I like a big screen and not a phone or tablet. My computer isn’t reliable enough to watch live events. It’ll freeze up, I’m lucky the damn thing still works at all.

It’s not center ice, as much as it’s my provider and for some reason there’s been so many glitches with it this season so far. It wasn’t going on back when everyone was getting the free preview, but it’s really gotten bad the last week.
