They said it was, I’ll check it when they finally post the video of it.

Either way, Smith on the goal line is just not working anymore.
They showed it on the broadcast so it’ll be out there.

It’s clearly deflected and has a big direction change.

Really given no chance.

Mike Smith:

15th best save percentage this season.

7th best save percentage last season.

Minumum 20 Games Played.

Sorry bleed but hes not an embarrassment at this point as he has been in the top 25 percentile of goaltenders these last two seasons.

An .890 in 8 games under Tippett this year and a .926 in 26 under Woodcroft. That's a 19-20 Hynes to Nas Blackwood type turnaround

I would say this series is clearly probably the weakest goalie matchup this round. Not factoring injured goalies.

Quick probably ain’t as good as this season. He didn’t overachieve to the level of Mike Smith last year, but this is his first good season since 17-18.

This series should be a win for Edmonton. It really should be.

Edmonton doesn’t win this game after completely dominating they are going to have bad flashbacks.

The Kings don’t even have someone you think is going to score here. They shouldn’t score. I’m assuming Barrie accidentally directs the winning goal into his own net or something though.

I feel If Edmonton wins at least one series they might not try to be battling with us in the goalie market. They might just go with Smith and Skinner instead of new acquisition and Smith.

I guess it’s because I’m not familiar enough with the players but I kind of want someone to explain to me the logic behind the these Kings lines like I’m a child. Just really break it down. Because I’m pretty convinced they’re picked out of a hat.

Who gets softy of the night? Vasilevskiy for whatever happened to him with the puck behind the net (or whatever happened there, that was hours ago when I watched that) or Smith on the game winner? That was the game winning goal for LA.

I'd give it to Smith because of the F-up.

Just 'cause he managed to recover in time, it still led eventually to the GW'er.

I’m still partial to Vasi sliding to the corner and giving Marner the whole net to shoot at

My low effort guesses, I mean picks part deux.

These are more conventional as the favorites are heavy favorites and I don’t see as much room for upsets, particularly with some of the crap goaltending of the underdogs.

Avalanche vs Predators:
Assuming Saros is out there’s not much to discuss here. I don’t like that much about the Avs defense beyond the top two demigods, but that won’t matter until they face a better team whose (healthy) goalie is even sort of good.

Pick: the Avs in 3.

Stars vs Flames:
I don’t see Calgary having many chinks in the armor that Dallas can exploit, other than the lingering questions about the lack of production from some of Calgary’s top guys in past playoffs.

Dallas is top line dependent, going against a team with better top line. Dallas can’t score much, emphasizing defensive, but Calgary is better defensively, while capable of scoring a lot more. Etc.

Picks: Flames jog

Capitals vs Panthers:
Oh baby! My adopted team, who I do emotionally abuse over their terrible, vaguely Euro unis, but I still will root for in the playoffs.

They have Sam Bennett, that magnificent bastard, who could face Calgary in the Finals. Even better, Claude Giroux could win a Cup the second he’s not a Flyer.

Not seeing much that give the Caps hope even though they remain one the NHL’s premier finishing teams. Their goaltending is even iffier than Florida’s.

Pick: The Kitties everyone should love

Some f***ing assholes vs Penguins:
Yes, the NYR’s TDL additions have helped with their recent strong play and with Shesty they are likely the right pick. The Penguins haven’t won a round since 2017-18 and their starter is injured for now, so there’s that.

However, this is the series out of all of these where the favorites aren’t clearly going to romp and I want to have some fun here, so I’ll go with Sullivan managing to somehow f*** the Rags shit up. We all need dreams.

Pick: The Penguins because I got to get a little wild here and hope they turn it around and take out the Rags for me personally. Make yourself useful for once Pittsburgh.

It is Smith on the F up (although he did make the save directly off the turnover).

Surprised there is no love for the goal from below the goal line that went off of Swayman’s head.

I see a whole lot of goals like that from dead angles like the one on Ullmark (it was actually Ullmark in net) last night. During the regular season I seem to see a goal like that happen every other night and on nights where there’s 10 or more games I find at least one of them on those nights. I never realized how common they were until I started watching every single goal scored around the league. I find goals like wraparounds to be pretty rare these days, but after Gillies allowed one against Edmonton it seemed to start a string of about 7 or 8 over the next 10 days after that.

I do mark those goals stoppable, but I try to avoid giving them the softy of the night if I can. That one did look a little lousier than your typical dead angle goal though.

As far as the Smith goal against, if a goalie turns the puck over and his team does not regain full possession of the puck between the goalies giveaway and the goal scored, I give the goalie a stoppable goal. Even if he had no chance on the actual shot. And as far as I could see, Edmonton never really got possession back on that between Smith’s gaffe and the goal. They might have gotten a stick or two on it, but never got it back.

If an Oilers skater did exactly what Smith did there and the goal still happened, I wouldn’t have given Smith a stoppable goal on it. But because he turned it over, he gets a stoppable goal even if he had no chance on the actual shot the way it went in.
