Depends on what is considered "big". Andre Lee was 2019 and Sodergran was 2018.
Yeah those two definitely have some size. Later picks though so maybe not as much potential there. The only other recent one I can think of was Dergachyov. I think the biggest mistake with him was not getting him out of Russia. Not so much because it's a bad league, but because he was on such a good team. He might have never panned out but he would have had a better chance than plugging along on the 4th line of a stacked team. As soon as he was traded to a bottom feeder he had his best season. I don't think there was much potential regardless.

If he makes it, Helenius is almost certainly going to be a Hanzal type with less skill, so I don't see much harm in bringing him over. I was never really enamored with him like many, he's just intriguing.

Looking at the highlights looked like Taylor Ward have been playing in the AHL for years.
First game he was throwing the body around (and an elbow) but looked a bit nervous with the puck and the pace. But after getting in some practice with the team (and obviously impressing since he was immediately put on the first line) he looked like just what you said. Like he's played pro for a while. Besides some pretty decent vision on some of those passes, what I really like was his rocket one timer on a dish into the slot that he was robbed on. He's an older player, turning 24 next week. But you never know with these college signings. Kings have turned a few of these kids into NHLers, including Iafallo and Lizotte. You can already see with his release he shoots the puck harder than those two, we'll have to see how things work out, but really not any risk in signing these players other than taking up a contract spot for a year. Good size too, and a shooting winger, so it's all good.

Still no Turcotte? Do we have an ETA?
Someone said it few pages back I think it's better to just shut him down for the rest of the year. He's missed almost the entire second half now and doesn't look good. I'm guessing it's concussion which is no bueno. What a shame.

Yeah exactly BUT with the way he plays, Turcotte cannot be a china doll out there. He has to gain strength in order to play in the NHL. That’s on the player.
The strength will come but they also need to add an older tough guy to help protect the kids unless they think Helenius and potentially Lee are enough

Sure but just about ANY of our prospects would have been hurt on that play. Turcotte came back to finish!

Byfield was hit from behind by Christian Fischer of all f***ing people.

Some things are ‘god why can’t this guy stop getting hurt,’ some are understandable. This was a dirty high hit from behind. Strength wouldn’t have helped him necessarily.

With Lee and Helenius making their AHL debuts, I feel like Andersson's and Grundstrom's days are numbered. Need that size in the bottom 6 if we want to contend

Doubt Lee is close to being ready. Helenius maybe, since he's been playing pro in Finland. But let's wait and see how both do in the A before adding them to the bottom six.

Kings prospects Lee, Hrenak, Helenius, Nousiainen join Ontario Reign

Andre Lee signs 2 yr, entry level contract!

Hopefully they let Helenius play at least 100 games in the AHL. He has a lot of work to do - especially face-offs and puck protection. He is a tall, lanky kid, who should add at least 10-15 lbs more muscle. Defensively positioning (hockeysense) and - of course - reach are his strenghts. In my mind his ceiling is 4th liner, because offensively he doesn't offer anything.

Kupari was a quite a lot better (I mean more effective in his role) player in Finland than Helenius. Kupari is now 22 and starting to show what kind player he going to be. Helenius is now 19 years old, so hold your horses, please. I like him a lot, but he is still so f***ing raw!

Right after the draft it was Yannetti or one of the staff that said he was drafted to be a bottom 6, big, nasty guy to play against. That would be a very welcome addition on this team. Hopefully he has a bit of skill to go with that size as he matures. I would be very happy with a guy that can skate a regular shift while not looking out of place and bringing that nastiness that we are lacking. With Lizotte signing a 2 year extension maybe they give Helenius that time to develop in the AHL?

I noticed that since returning to the Reign from his stint on the big club, Alex Turcotte is on a point-per-game pace. 3 goals, 5 assists, 8 points, +8 in 8 games. I'm cheering for him to pick it up and earn his spot in October. For those of you who are watching the Reign regularly, how has he looked since returning? Who are his line mates?

Edit: never mind. Looks like he's been injured for a month.

That's what makes this so frustrating. It seemed like things were just starting click for him offensively (at least numbers wise) then out day-to-day for a month.
