Huh? Medical privacy laws are largely designed to protect the patient's health information, not the practitioner. Forgive me but what are you talking about?

550 fully inoculated healthcare workers to be allowed inside to watch Leafs Game 7 in Toronto

The Ford government will now allow 550 fully inoculated healthcare workers to attend the Toronto Maple Leafs Game 7 against Montreal at Scotiabank Arena tonight; just 21 hours after one of its ministers rejected the proposal outright.
“Following discussions with the Chief Medical Officer of Health, Toronto Public Health and hospital partners, I am happy to announce that they have signed off on allowing 550 fully vaccinated frontline health care workers, including hospital and long-term care staff, to be invited to attend Game 7 of the series between the Toronto Maple Leafs and Montreal Canadiens at Scotiabank Arena tonight,” Premier Doug Ford said in a statement issued Monday morning.

That's.....not what the vaccines are for (not at this moment in time yet).

People have got to stop thinking like fans for a second and think of the bigger picture - having thousands of people congregate is not a good idea.
If the province had been at 75% fully vaccinated, maybe. The chances of people getting infected and having severe symptoms are very much reduced at that point.

We are nowhere near the point where we could comfortably say that people should be allowed to congregate in the thousands, in a relatively small space.
The US is nowhere near 75% and yet everything is open, arenas are packed.

It should just be full. There’s no reason we can’t be going full speed ahead back to normal.

if you’re at risk, take care of yourself and stay home. If you feel safe, live your life

Maybe not full, but I can’t see why fully vaccinated people can’t all go to the game? Even limited capacity like 8k would be awesome.

They have much more fully vaccinated people. Ontario chose the spread the vaccines out to more people due to limited supply.

1) Per capita Ontario is higher
2) Allow only the vaccinated in and pack the building

Better than nothing, I guess. There were about that many Leaf fans in Montreal 2 nights ago lol.

Either way, classic Doug Ford. This is the one time where his spine being made of jello is a good thing.

Not sure they could coordinate significantly more on such short notice with proof of vaccination and tests in place.

Wonder how they'll distribute tickets

LMAO at 550.

Whatever, better than nothing. I hope they're loud as can be.

Go leafs go.

I think its safe to assume come october both leafs and raptors will only allow fully vaccinated fans?
Not taking sides i’m just guessing ?

Pretty funny that we're panic opening a hockey arena but still can't get a haircut, sit on a patio etc

Of course all three of those things should be fully open/available so...

Doug Ford donors about to hit the jackpot

The issue as I see it is that no one can be ‘responsible’ for anyone else’s health. It’s unreasonable to put that out there on people, and yet here we are, all trying to save everyone else by ruining our lives.

it’s an impossible ask and it’s time to move on

I understand the desire to prevent hospitals from being overworked (which is a whole other issue with this province) but what’s the point in being vaccinated if we still can’t do things after that?

As it is, Fords brilliant reopening plan is so far behind every other province. What a joke this government is.

500 ppl? lmao sorry but what's the point almost. At least take it to 10% ala Montreal. I'm sure there are easily that many fully vaccinated frontline healthcare workers by now. Sigh.

Quebec has the highest 1st dose vaccination rate in the country, by a tiny bit (for provinces). Also, we've been in a much harder lockdown for longer and cases are now near 300 per day... vs still over 1000 for ON.

Anyway, letting FULLY vaccinated people in should be okay at this point. Yes, the risks are still there so health protocol must remain in place. I am pretty sure the Habs didn't even check for vaccinations at all, all they made you sign was a waiver stating you do not have Covid. What the Leafs are proposing is much more safe imo.

The hospitals are always overrun, the government is just bad at everything. They have more money than they need to make sure our healthcare system is taken care of, but hospitals are always just about full on any normal day.

700 ICU patients across the province put us in “we need to choose who gets care and who doesn’t unless we shut down everyone’s lives”? Really? 700 is that number? It’s not bigger than that?

if there is a bus crash, the hospitals would be overrun

how many MRI machines did we have in 2013? 5? Across the province? Really? It’s not bigger than that?

The government is just terrible at everything

Likely. Another example, Atlantic provinces seem to be moving toward allowing fully vaccinated (or one dose) without 14 days isolation. Not taking sides either, but I'd bet vaccinated persons will have more privileges than their non-vaccinated counterparts as the year continues.

At least they allowed some. Would’ve preferred closer to the Habs number tho

If they allow them closer to the ice, these 550 will be far more prominent and contributing than the Habs fans were.

I doubt it though, due to the advertising that currently fills the lower seats.
