Anyone else play vintage NHL games?
I'm not into how involved newer games are, nor the price of the systems to play them as I consider myself a casual gamer at best. Naturally my favourite system is my N64 which I brought over from Canada.
NHL99 just came today in the mail, and the ganeplay is miles better than my NHL Breakaway 98 game as you can wind up your shot and release at your desired strength, the graphics are a bit better, and body checks are much easier to make and far more brutal. The only negative I've seen so far is that there's no CPU decisions on trade proposals as well as player ratings nit being assigned numbers but on a "bar" system. This makes it difficult to create fair value trades as a player like Gretzky seems to have the same bar rating as Kelly Buchberger.
Anyways, I did my best to make trades to shape up my roster at the start of the season and decided to stick with Oilers alumni only and here's what I've got
Smyth-Weight-Guerin (already were on my roster)
Kovalenko-Gretzky-Carter
Moreau-Marchant-Grier (ode to the MGM)
Cleary-R. Murray-Laraque
Coffey-Mironov
Hamrlik-Olausson
Souray-J.Smith
Salo
Roloson
I feel like I have a good combination of offense and PKers with a pretty balanced defense.
Once I finished all my trades and was editing my lines I found out Gretzky got injured in his first game of the season for the Rangers so I've had to elevate Rem Murray to the top line and slotted in Scott Thornton at 4C.
