SiruisXM NHL guys were saying this was so that Hutch can get the required number of games so he can be exposed in the expansion draft since Pavelec is on an expiring contract.

I don't believe there's a minimum GP threshold for goalies exposed in the expansion draft, they just have to be under contract through 2017-18.

Hutch has comparable stats to Pavelec and he has some experience. We also need Hutch to expose as our expansion goalie.

Would you rather keep Pavelec, in his last year of contract, who won't be resigned, with a sub-par track record or Hellebuyck, who showed very well last year and is expected to be a mainstay for this franchise?

BTW, playoffs are not expected this year. We'll have more rookies his year in the line-up. Pavelec would not be willing us to the playoffs.

Hellebuyck had the best save percentage out of all of them last year.....

Feels like I took the best pee of relief in my life.

Wish him all the best and thank him for everything he has done for the Jets.

I'm actually a bit surprised because he played one game in the preaseason and he got a shutout. Mind you he was flopping more than a texas holdem game.

You can't honestly believe that.

If San Jose's GM feels that Pavs gives them the best chance to win this year (and we've seen GM's with far worse thought processes), I don't think price will matter. He only has 1 year left on his deal. Not sure why that is so ridiculous to say

Now that Pav is gone, where is all of the hate going to go? Thorburn can't be the target of an entire fanbase's negativity, he is only one man.

Oh, Mark Stuart didn't get cut. Problem solved.

No one is taking an awful goaltender at the cost of 3.9m in cap space. That is ridiculous to suggest. At best they would wait for him to clear waivers and then trade for him with the Jets retaining half his salary

They need a backup, for a clearly defined backup job. They're not a slight downgrade in the backup spot away from it costing them a playoff spot, either. Of course money will be a prime consideration to fill any role like that. There's going to be more important places to spend money on over the course of a season and post-deadline. If their backup situation is still a concern in February and they'd want to get a safety net in case of a Jones injury, they can just get someone for very cheap then and save $2-3M of accumulated salary between now and then.
