Once again, skidding into the playoffs...

I don't want either of Tampa or Florida in the first round, literally the 2 best teams in the East for like the past 5 years. They have 5 Cup final appearances and 3 cups between the 2 of them.

Florida especially is still a juggernaut, Tampa I think we would be the favorites but they have championship pedigree.

Ottawa is going to be tough too, young hungry team with a stud goaltender.

There isn't going to be an easy lay up series but given the options, I'd prefer Ottawa.

Yeah.....gotta play who is in front of us.

I think we match up better against Tampa out of those 3 teams but they have the best goalie in the league and we all know we struggle enough to score.

Ottawa is fast and we are old and slow. Its going to be a hell of a series and we better hope our goalies play at a elite level as I expect us to be outshot in every game against them.

Let Florida and Tampa beat each other up. We really need our 3rd line to play well in the playoffs. We all know coaches will shrink the bench when needed..

Is this team legit? we will find out soon

as legit as they are ever going to be. It's between the ears now. You can put our team up against any roster in the league.

Our goaltending can compete with any goaltending in the NHL. Even if they aren't better they will make it close.

Our defense is up there with any team in the 5-10 range of the NHL.

We got the super stars

We got one of the best coaches in the NHL

And we have played the "right" way all season instead of running and gunning for 60 games, attempting to play good defense post TDL, getting bored, running and gunning, then going back to the trap mid playoff series.

We're one of the oldest team in the NHL and the biggest/heaviest in the NHL on paper.

This time, it really is our year. If it's not the team will be unrecognizable next season

If we have one of the best coaches and have been playing the right way all season, we should be a lot better than 12th in goals against, especially considering we're 7th in team SV%.

Lots of empty net goals against, and we had Matt Murray give up 8 goals, Hildebe gave up 8 and 6 I believe.

More importantly, we are high in the rankings I feel are important. GSAA and high danger chances against we are elite.

Not sure other teams aren't affected by similar issues, but who knows.

Well that does sound encouraging. I appreciate that info, after the last 8 years I need all the positive facts I can get. I thought losing to MTL was rock bottom, but losing to MTL or OTT this season, well that would a new and altogether unfathomable level of pukiness that's hard to even contemplate. GLG!!

Vegas was 11th, Colorado was 9th, Tampa was 10th the first of their back to back (6th in the second). Yes, Florida was very good last year in this department, but that isn't necessarily a trend.

Cumulatively the best teams in GA over the last five years are Carolina, Winnipeg, and Boston. None have won. They have one Conference Finals appearance in total in that time span. That was Carolina in 2022-23. They were second in the league that year. The team they eventually lost to? Florida. They were 21st in GA that year. The team that was first in 2022-23? Boston. They lost in the first round to, you guessed it, Florida.

Yes, goals against are bad, but being at the top of the league in this stat isn't a great predictor of recent playoff success.

I know someone posted this but it isn't true. Watch the games, and don't believe everything you read.
The 8-1-1 was posted on April 8th am.

April 5 5-0 vs CBJ
Apr 2 3-2 vs FLA
Mar 30 3-2 vs ANA
Mar 29 3-1 vs LAK
Mar 27 5-6 vs SJS in SO
Mar 25 7-2 vs PHI
Mar 22 2-5 vs NAS
Mar 20 4-3 vs NYR
Mar 19 2-1 vs COL
Mar 17 6-2 vs CGY

What record do you get from that?

Maybe do a little research before posting nonsense (and repeating it so confidently).

This was in the post that I was responding to:

We have threads made about how we're skidding into the playoffs when they have gone 8-1-1 in there last 10 games.

We were not 8-1-1 on March 24th when the thread was made, in fact we were much worse than that (you might even say we were skidding) so you're the one who's posting nonsense. If you're going to respond to a post, maybe next time don't wait 4 days and you'll have a better chance of understanding what's what.

The reality is that this thread was an overreaction from the day it was started. In any event, it will be long forgotten a couple of months from now when the Leafs are doing bigger and better things.

It was a very misguided overreaction but there’s still a few Leaf “fans” who can’t get past the shootout loss to San Jose six weeks ago. And some who still think the washed up Florida teams are still powerhouses of the East.

This thread is an all time classic though. Right up there with the one about how bleak the Leafs future is.

To clarify any confusion that some “fans” might have, Toronto has gone 11-2-1 since the sky was falling after losing to Ottawa.

You asked where they got the 8-1-1 stuff from and that it was nonsense. I was the one who posted that stat. At no point did I state on March 24th.
So maybe you should clarify which post was incorrect?

Edit. Changed wording

And that was the whole point of the 8-1-1 comment.

Regardless the poster stated that it was an overreaction. Good on them.
