Ahh yes. It is insane that Berube is going with the Goalie that was the Starter for most of the year and carried the load when Binnington was playing god awfully instead of the Career AHL goalie who went 4-0 against bottom of the league teams.

Did you mess those up like St. Louis has messed up bagels & pizza!?

I'd argue it's also a bad look that you have a goalie in your system that came up, went 5-0 for you with a 1.22 GAA and .958 save%, and then went back down to the AHL and dominated there too by going 24-7-1 with a .925 save% and 2.21 GAA, and the team never gave him another shot.

For Berube to openly admit that he did not give a single thought to Lindgren, THAT is a slap in the face.

Lindgren is a UFA this offseason along with Husso, so he can leave too. Hopefully other goalies around the league see this situation and realize that no matter how well they play for you, the Blues won't give you a fair shot so don't bother signing here.
The Blues helped revive the careers of two minor league goalies this year, Lindgren and Gillies. Zero doubt we will not have any issues convincing similar quality goalies to sign here in the future.

I would bet the house that Husso has more of an NHL future than Lindgren. If Lindgren wants to sign somewhere else next season, then good for him. I genuinely hope he gets a good pay day. Lindgren 5 NHL games were great...now compare that to Husso’s NHL games this season.

Meh…

Charlie is the least of our worries

If lines 2 through 4 can’t contribute to scoring AND we can’t continue to keep McKinnon and Makar off the scoresheet, we are hosed.

God knows what that troll Kadri will do. Just hope he doesn’t hurt someone else while making himself a double victim.

Zero issue with starting the guy who got you here. If Ville wants a job and a big raise next year, he can play for it. Not starting him after all he’s done for the team this season would be an enormous slap in the face and virtually guarantee he’d be gone in the offseason (and just generally a bad look for the org IMO). Let’s go Ville, LGB!
I understand going with Husso, but I don't think it is accurate to say he's the guy who got us here. He was really good for a lot of the regular season and the team earned 56 points in his 38 starts. The team earned 53 points in the 44 games he didn't start. The team was absolutely better when he was in net, but they played at a 98.7 point pace without him in net. It is impossible to predict what happens if he just magically hadn't been on the roster, but it definitely isn't true that he dragged us to the playoffs. He absolutely isn't the guy who got us out of round 1. He has a 1-4 playoff record and has allowed 4+ in each of his last 4 games.

I don't think that it would be a remotely bad look for the organization to not start him in this game. He wasn't good enough in game 3 (in relief) and they went back to him in game 4. He was dreadful in the 2nd period to put us in a 3-1 hole. A lot of coaches would have pulled him there as a momentum change move. Instead, Berube opted to burn his timeout. We battled back late in the 2nd to make it 4-3, but then Husso allowed another back breaking short side goal in the 3rd to put the game out of reach. He has already been given a long leash here. He was far from good enough in game 4 and now we are facing elimination.

He earned game 1 to start the playoffs and we gave him that. He fumbled the ball and Binner is the guy who got us across the finish line from a 2-1 series hole. Husso is now on the hook for 2 of the 3 losses in this series. Both of them were games where our D did a pretty damn good job limiting chances against and we gave him 5 total goals of support. It is not at all unreasonable to say that we probably win one of those games with good goaltending. Berube left him in after a horrid 5 minute stretch just to see Husso allow a back breaker in the 3rd after we battled back. the coaching staff has absolutely given him everything he was owed from his regular season. He's had a chance to play for that raise and has wilted in multiple consecutive games.

I think Husso is a better goalie than Lindgren in the long run, but I'd have Lindgren in net tonight. Husso's lost his game at the moment and I don't want to bank on him suddenly finding it in an elimination game. With that said, it certainly isn't a no brainer decision to start Lindgren and I'm fully confident that Berube isn't making the decision based on future contract negotiations.

Well....it's been a ride. Entertaining season for sure. I'd say they have about a 40% chance of forcing a game 6 and about 15% chance of forcing a game 7. Coming into this series I'd have been surprised if they were to pull it off; no need to be upset about the most likely outcome taking place. Over 82 games, the Avs proved to be a clear notch ahead of the Blues, and their weaknesses less of an obstacle than St. Louis'. The Blues at their best are capable of beating Colorado, and maybe with their backs firmly against the wall they'll prove it. But their margin of error was always thin and a lot had to go right for this team to navigate through 4 rounds. If a left-defense of Leddy-Rosen-Mikkola-Perunovich could have smoke-and-mirrored themselves into Round 3 then Berube would have been deserving of the Conn Smythe and Binnington likely would have been in sustained 'god-mode'.

As it stands, those things haven't happened. Even if the LHD was Krug-Scandella-Leddy-Rosemikkolavich it still would have required everyone firing on all cylinders, along with good luck, good health and injury trouble in Colorado for the script to have been flipped. That's a damn good team on the other side. The Avs at their best (or anything resembling it) bring more than most teams can handle. If Point is healthy in Tampa, that's about the only team i can see stopping this train.

Guys, it's not gonna be Lindgren. Does anyone really think that's gonna happen? (I mean, barring him coming in if Husso gets lit up or Kadri inadvertently lands on top of him too)

Some really dramatic posts in here about a career minor league goaltender who hasn't started a game in the NHL in 2022. There was never a chance Charlie would start this game.

If he wants to cite us "spurning" him the chance to play in the playoffs as his reason for leaving in the offseason, don't let the door hit you.

Not sure what you mean. No, he doesn't appear to be starting Lindgren, but he has definitely switched a lot of things up. No Perunovich and I think it's a good decision. He's a -4 even with sheltered minutes and 3 of his 4 assists are on the powerplay.

Perunovich was asked to play a role above his head. But the gamble to intercept that pass resulted directly in a costly goal last game. That was a mental error he just can’t make. Captaining the PP well doesn’t make up for it. If Krug is ready to play, its a very good development.

This might not be right place and time to write this, but bare with me.

It has been tough last couple years after Pietro gone. Foundation is gone.

I have stopped so many times, thinked my mind through, over and over again what is happened. Hard to see why this team is heading forward and right direction.

I still believe Army's view of thinking, well, he build Cup team.

I'm still huge fan of this team. No matter how much I hate some odd moves I'm bleeding Blue.

This is my team since 2007 and will be the end of days.

The Blues helped revive the careers of two minor league goalies this year, Lindgren and Gillies. Zero doubt we will not have any issues convincing similar quality goalies to sign here in the future.
Just to add even more context, none of the 32 NHL franchises were willing to offer Lindgren a 1 way contract this summer after a 2 year stretch where he played 25 total pro games. He hasn't made a ton of money in his career and his decision on his next deal (like pretty much all journeymen goalies) needs to be financial.

But as to our usage of him, we left him on our roster for all of December rather than shuffling him up and down to play cap games when we had long stretches between games. That included us making sure he stayed on the roster until the day of the Winter Classic so he could participate in all the festivities (he's from Minnesota and brought his parents out for the game). He was moved to the taxi squad at the last possible moment to ensure Husso was eligible to dress. Leaving him on the NHL roster as long as we did had tangible impacts on his earnings since he was on a 2 way deal.

Any journeyman goalie considering his options as an organization's 3rd string goalie will almost certainly look at all that over looking at whether he got to start an elimination game over a healthy goalie who has been ahead of him on the depth chart every day of the season.

I wanted to see him tonight because I've hated what I've seen from Husso in the last 2 games. But it is absolutely not true that Lindgren is being treated disrespectfully by an NHL coach playing his NHL goalie over a career AHL goalie.

Agree 100%, there was never any realistic chance of Chuckie starting tonight. The coaches aren't just going to throw a 3rd string AHL goalie into a playoff series against one of the most potent offenses in the NHL. Without the efforts of Husso we may not have even made the playoffs. He was a top 3 MVP candidate on this team this year and I'm a bit surprised how fast Blues fans have turned on him.
