I'm still deciding if I'm drinking for tomorrow's game or not

Daryl Evans likes to tell a story about being down 3-0 with about a minute left when he was growing up. A relative (I think his uncle) left the arena and Daryl's team came back to tie it 3-3. He gave his uncle hell over it, telling him you never leave a game early.

Years later, his uncle is in LA watching the Kings losing to the Oilers 5-0. Someone with his uncle suggests that they leave. His uncle says you never leave a game early.

Lesson learned.

That's an awesome story.

Well apparently Russia's drive to win at hockey ended with the cold war. I guess the threat of being sent to the gulag for poor performance is what it took to be a winner.

Still can't believe the US women pissed that win away. I'll be honest, I didn't really car that much until the last game. I have watched more women's games than men's but I'm not emotionally invested in either. I would just like to see the US beat Canada at "their game". And i'm not talking about curling..

What the hell happened. Was at lunch and checked the score and US was up 2 zip. Went back to work and checked the score half hour later and it was 4 to 3 loss! Whoa!

Wah!

Isn't participation in the Olympics something that is negotiated in the CBA? A deal is a deal. Nobody is forced to go. Perhaps he should blame Tavares for going. I get being upset that a player got hurt but they all could have easily happened in an NHL game. I'm not sure how that is any different except he wasn't procuring revenue for the Islanders when he got hurt. Kinda like when Erik Johnson got hurt climbing out of a golf cart.

If participation in the Olympics is something they feel is hazardous and compromises the organizations "assets", they ought to be fighting hard to get that out of the next CBA and not whining to the media because something bad happened. Quite frankly, the exposure the game gets far outweighs the bad. I definitely get being upset and frustrated that a player got hurt while not in your uniform but that can happen anywhere.

I don't know what time Big Wangs opens but I know they show World Cup games and I watched the last Olympics there but that was at 11am at the earliest. Give them a call!
[!!]
I called and they're open at 9am showing the game..

Anyone else thinking of going to watch the game? :)

The Olympics is voluntary last time I checked. Snow can cry into his money all he wants.

Now he's stuck with Vanish.

The IOC insurance pays for Tavares salary now.
not like the Islanders were going to make the playoffs anyway. So now they get his salary paid for, a better pic (maybe Buffalo gets that), and a clearer direction of what to do at the deadline.
no matter how it is spun it is devastating but can look at the positives

That's about the only answer in this situation. The Olympics were going to be played whether NHLers went or not. Russian players may have been the most adamant about playing, but no player chosen for the teams turned down the invitation. They all want the gold.

Injuries are obviously the #1 fear of fans, and teams as well, but players want to go and play. Clearly the risk of injury doesn't keep them from going.

Ugh, I don't feel confident at all about tomorrow. The US never beats Canada in elimination games.

Same. And the U.S. will be the first team to play Canada straight up instead of "oh god please don't score" collapse defense, which I think plays right into their hands.

I think it will be an OT game, though.
