Ehh, I'm much more of a men's fan. Not getting a medal of any kind is a lot worse for me. Not to take away from the epic fail of the women. They still take overall gold on the podium of fail for that.

Someone on the main board made a list of top 10 defensemen currently in the league... It was probably the most sane list in the thread, as it actually had many complete defensive players on it.
It had Klein, McDonough, Staal, and Girardi on the list.
Let's not get down on McD here.

He is as good defensively as all 4.

Rask is on today. Like the stat said (and us fantasy hockey owners know) 3/4 of the time he's on, the other he isn't.
USA just isn't scoring. It's on the guys up front. If they don't medal it's because they stopped scoring and generating enough offense for almost two games.
They've had a good tournament but also look at who they've played; an old Czech team, two teams with few NHLers, and an overrated Russian squad.

Also I wouldn't call Karlsson a more complete player, better player sure. Karlsson is just in another universe offensively but he's not elite defensively. Subban may be better than McD, but McD is better defensively. Once again, I wouldn't say he's a more complete player.

I'm a Men's fan too, but to go in as the underdog, have a 2-0 lead with 3 minutes left, only to give it up so quickly. Man, it sucked.
This game is blowing hard.
Absolutely not. I just feel there are a level of defenders who're better. No harm in saying that. Easily top 10 regardless.

This. I would rank Karlsson ahead because he is bar none the best offensive defenseman in the league. But he is by no means a more complete player. Tough to compare the two ultimately.
There seems to be a misconception that Subban and Karlsson are bad defensive players.

When Karlsson is on the ice, now that he is healthy again, and basically regardless of opposition, the puck more than often is in the offensive zone. Best way to play defense is to create constant offense. Never been a better, more dominant defensman in the league offensively since Bobby Orr. Seriously!

I don't know about that, but EK is absolutely amazing.
This is what will happen when strong offensive players like Ryan and Yandle were left off. Also, Kane and Parise couldn't spell intense in this tournament. Very disappointing for 2 stars who carried the team last Olympics.
That being said, Sweden still made mindbogglingly stupid roster decision as well. No Hedman, no Lindholm, no Brodin, Zibanejad, etc.

I agree.
I don't think EK is better than N. Lidstrom or even a few other guys who have come since Orr. It's way to early to compare him to to people on that level.

The exclusion of Bobby Ryan isn't really the hilarious irony as much as the large majority of USA fans at the beginning of this tournament talking about how much legit scoring threat this team has, and they'll have no problem scoring goals.
Which was true, against nobodies.
