Do they?

I don't recall much, if any, talk about "fleecing" other teams.

The Lekhonen, Toffoli & Chiarot trades were pretty typical deadline deals of vets/expiring contracts traded for futures. The trade values in each were well within range of expectations , if a little favorable to Mtl at thet ime.

They were D2 prospects... A former late 1st and mid 2nd. Yes, most teams have D2 prospects, no, most teams do not have definitive assessments on wether or not those prospects will hit their ceilings or are just "spare parts"

They are assets, moved if the right opportunity arises, held on to if not... Even at the risk of eventually losing them to waivers.

Don't you think the Flames or Pens or Oilers would, in hindsight, have traded the likes of Poulin, Pelletier or Lavoie to bolster their rosters & playoff depth in their respective D2 seasons of they "knew" they would just end up on waivers a few years later?
The day we got Barron people were bragging about how JB was going to anchor our blueline and immediately was one of our top prospects. 'He plays summer hockey with Crosby' they screamed, 'Crosby says Barron is amazing'

People have to settle down, the scouting world is small, teams know what they are giving up for the most part.

Many teams are incompetent at evaluating players. Florida lost Marshessault and Karlsson in the expansion draft. 2 teams dumped Verhaege. It's not an exact science and Colorado is either one of the more incompetent teams or they look for different qualities in players. In any event they reportedly did not want to move Barron.

Some players thrive in different environments and playing with particular players. Zero chance Verheage sniffs 70+ points playing on our team the past two years. Zero chance Hyman hits his goal total with our team.

Players are out there getting paid, because they hit the jackpot playing in certain environments and with certain players.

Scouting is not an exact science, sure. Development is also not an exact science. Certain players producing is also not an absolute.

I feel like our scouting has done pretty damn good.

Apparently he is more energetic and supposedly had a good shot, but yeah pretty much. I am expecting more out of Kapanen than Heineman.
Heineman is a dog on a bone type of player. He's a puck and forecheck hound. In the past he's been too engaged physically, as it's led to injury. So in that aspect, he's the exact opposite of Ylonen.

Anaheim lost 21 years old Shea Theodore in the exp draft (traded for not drafting another player consideration if i remember correctly). They protected Rickard Rackell, Silfverberg, an almost retired Antoine Vermette and 30 years old Cogliano. Pretending teams know what they have d+ 2 is ridiculous imo. They have a better idea than on draft day and d + 1 but they still for the most part have no idea.

Still physically weak but I liked a lot of his puck touches. A year ago I wasn't sure he'd even get a contract he was not progressing at all. So I'm assuming he's a legit top six forward by next year. What a nice surprise to make up for Mesar being a nothing burger.

2019-21 sneakily becoming good to great drafts for us.

I didn't think he would make it, in the little I saw of preseason I wasn't overly impressed as I thought the speed/skating/strength didn't look like he would be in the NHL this year vs being on the top line in the SHL, I would have went with the SHL option. So I'm interested to see what the plan is as I just hope he plays every game or close to it if they plan on keeping him up all year.

Maybe my eyesight deceives me but I actually think his skating is really good.
