My favorite was when it was reported, by I believe Bob McKenzie, that Detroit turned down a deal of Larkin for Tyler Myers. The entire thread was people calling Holland an idiot for turning down the deal.

It wasn't a trade thread, but one that I liked to revisit (I think it's been since deleted) was one particular poster's mission to disparage Brady Tkachuk during his draft year. If I recall correctly, the user had an anti-Tkachuk user name and/or spiel under the user name. They were certain that Tkachuk was a fraud and only considered a top prospect because of his last name. They used some questionable "analytics" to show that Oliver Wahlstrom was the far superior prospect.

I didn't have a particular horse in the race, but I felt the compulsive need to point out that comparing Tkachuk's freshman year stats to Wahlstrom's USNTDP exhibition stats against NCAA clubs wasn't exactly apples to apples; In most cases, the NCAA clubs will dress their backup goalie (or sometimes 3rd string) and give their depth guys more time since it's an exhibition.

The poster treated Tkachuk's 8 goals in 40 games as a freshman as a definitive sign that he couldn't score. I felt the need to point out that Tkachuk had an almost unsustainably low shooting percentage and that even for NHL stars shooting percentage can fluctuate wildly from year to year. But the poster dismissed those notions and concluded that if Tkachuk couldn't score against NCAA goalies, what chance did he have against NHL netminders?

Other posters would periodically bump the thread and give the poster grief to the point where they eventually had to concede that they were wrong and change their user name to avoid harrassment.

Yeah I’ve done this a lot.

The best is when majority of the takes have aged like shit and you start laughing to yourself only to see your username pop up in horror parroting everything you’ve just made fun of with no memory of the thread
That’s actually happened to me multiple times. Truly humbling
I have the opposite problem. Any old posts of mine I see are 100% accurate.

The actual best content on this site was early lounge stuff before social media like Facebook existed. There was some single Canadian dude living in squalor that would post cooking videos of him sifting through layers of trash to make eggshell omelettes and nonsense meals with the perfect tongue in cheek commentary to go along.

I was thinking of this exact thing. I can’t remember the specifics, but it started as a cooking thread and devolved when people started paying attention to the background in his photos. He was living like some cross between a wild animal and a toddler, it was insane.

It’s really tragic how much was lost in the migration. I get that there are technical limitations, but it was like burning the family Bible.

That or “Who is the best Goatlender in the league” with photoshopped Brodeur as a shepherd.

Yes — that he’d score in a particular period of a specific game. Months in advance. It turned out to be true. And it was eerie.

What makes it weirder/more unsettling is that he bumped the thread right after the goal and said something like, "see, I told you."

That makes it seem as though it wasn't merely a random guess someone made while posting one day. A lot of people have made predictions (in threads/polls asking how many goals or points a player will score and such), only to forget all about the predictions and threads they were made in.

It was as if he put thought into his answer, remembered it, waited to see if he would be right and then bumped the thread. So odd.

Sorry

One summer, maybe a decade ago, I created a great thread "Replace Movie Lines with Player Names.'. It got pretty wild. Huge thread to keep us occupied during the dog days of summer. It was a lot of fun.

There were many funny threads. Sadly, they are locked after few pages.

Wasn't there some thread "This is out house" ? Many hfboards members called it as the best thread ever.

We should have the opportunity to vote a Thread to the HFBoards Hall of Fame.
IMO, the best thread ever has to be the guy who solo'ed a GDT for an entire game - all by himself. Pretty sure it was on the Wild board.

Runner up for me would be the Flyers board "Describe the season with a picture thread" from like 10+ years ago.

The only way hindsight helps is in knowing that Klefbom would retire before Suzuki. Does that mean offering a 7th for Crosby is fair right now because Crosby will retire before whoever the 7th round pick is?
If we jump 5-10 years into the future and see that Crosby played 62 games on a lottery team and then retired and the 7th turned into an All-Star player, then sure. That's how hindsight works..... Klefbom played his last NHL season in 19-20 the exact same year Suzuki played his rookie year. So you'd get Suzuki for 12+ years for 62 games of Klefbom

Oh and it would have been the 2019 1st so that was Cole Caufield.

Bob McKenzie's best HF moment was when he called a poster an assclown

Edit: I was corrected on the nickname he used

I still call Brett Lernout "Leuhournt" because of a thread from like 2014 where the OP misspelled his name constantly, it was a bit of a meme for a couple of weeks on HFHabs lol
