Tough break for Cassidy watching both the Oilers and Leafs hire someone else this week - obviously the Oilers didn't even get the opportunity. I thought he was heading to the payday of a lifetime with both those teams looking for a coach in a slim market.

Players don't want to play for him. McDavid and Draisaitl showing they aren't leaders by letting this kind of cancer hit your team. Decades of documented bullying and psychological abuse of players, staff, arena staff from him. NHL did a pathetic job, the PA should file complaints.
I'm not so sure about that. Even during the Columbus fiasco Jenner and Gaudreau both publicly defended him.

His abrasive style has obviously crossed lines in the past. What he did with Franzen and Marner for example is too much.

However he's definitely got supporters over the years.

Yeah, that's what worries me. I don't know if he's good at gaslighting or if some folks that need pushing just don't want to be pushed. And until quite recently I was very certain that the former theory was the most plausible. But now what little data we have publicly could potentially go either way, and given how angry I've been with him for f***ing up that second chance here that has me worried I may have partially mistargeted my anger.

So the part of me that wants to Never Be Wrong hopes he crashes and burns as expected. But a much larger part of me wants to see the fairytale redemption story happen. (And the rest of me expects a split difference and to never be certain again, but, hey, that's hardly new territory for me.)
