No one in america gave two ***** about hockey in america until Gretzky left Edmonton for LA.. So my point still stands. Half the teams in existence wouldn't be around if Wayne never left that city in the middle of no where. You canadiens really don't have a grasp at how little hockey means to average americans even now and it used to be ten times worse.

I live in the US. I know how little most Americans care about hockey. Somehow I imagine McDavid playing in New Jersey, of all places, wouldn't really help things too much.

Congratulations to the Oilers, don't listen to the haters guys. I'm happy for this franchise. Hopefully your luck will turn around.

Once again congratulations :)

Everyone always ***** on the oilers for the 1st overall picks in recent years. But it's been said by everyone every time it's debated, the 1st overall picks that they got during those years were some of the worst ever. The oilers happened to suck at the worst possible time regarding upcoming talent.

Plus, no one wants to play here in edmonton, it's near impossible to attract good players to our market, regarding both the city itself and it's location and how poorly the team is managed and performs.

This is a very nice reward.
Now we get rewarded.

Yeah some people don't realize this. At the same time though they were top picks with high end talent. Management doesn't know what they're doing.

Good for the city and the fans though especially with the new arena coming.

Lol @ everyone saying McDavid didn't look happy. People say the same thing every year about the guy who's picked first. Some of you live in a fantasy world.

LOL only the 1st overall picks that belong to Edmonton were the prospects unhappy.

As I recall, Stamkos, Tavares, Ekblad all looked happy to be drafted by their teams. Heck Tavares even said he wanted to play for the Islanders.

but I think it's cool to now have a Generational player in the western Conference. All the stars are located in the East, like Crosby and Ovechkin. There's nothing out west, except for chicago. Now that he is in Canada, and in the pacific division I think it's cool. You know, we have to wait suck it up for a Pittsburgh game, we now have a Crosby type player in our division, it's kinda awesome.

You have teams like the Habs and Rangers working their ***** off to get a good team together with the mediocre picks over the years.

Then you have Edmonton. Sucking and getting rewarded. Sickening.

So Connor McDavid got a ticket to Edmonton.

I actually liked the current draft system but tonight I felt just bad.

Edmonton Oilers, once proud franchise, nowadays the laughing stock of the league and worst managed team in the league gets what their 4th 1st overall pick on 6 years. Reward for incompetence at it's best.

I didn't really mind Oilers getting to pick Hall, RHN etc. but them winning the McDavid lottery just irritates the hell out of me.

I wish McDavid pulls a lindros and tells the Oilers to **** off.

On the plus side, this guarantees the Oilers management team stick around for another decade. That or Katz cleans house in the next 24 hrs.

As somebody commented on Twitter, you can actually pinpoint to the split second his heart rips in half.

And, I said this over on the other thread, but I'll laugh so hard if McDavid pulls a Steve Francis & says God doesn't want him to play in Edmonton.

If the Oilers finally start winning, it will remind me of when I used the Game Shark to beat the hard games on Nintendo.

I am just happy Buffalo did not win

Sabres fans can correct me on this--but nearly every move they made in the last 20 months was all about trying to draft Mcdavid--I have a problem with that. They were open about their plans atleast--I will give them that.

The NHL wanted to change the draft this time around--but the Sabres fault tooth and nail to have the changes take place next year

I'll correct you. nearly every move they made in the last 20 months was all about the best chance (20%) at McDavid but more importantly 100% at Jack Eichel

what about the 2012 first overall?
the 2011 first overall?
the 2010 first overall?
2013 7th overall?

I apologize if I was not as excited when we got the opportunity to draft Yakupov first overall.

McDavid is to Yak as Ovechkin is to Tanner Glass.
