JP reminds me of another player named JP (Joni Pitkanen) in the sense that his stoicism and space cadet kind of attitude was mistaken for indifference and the higher up old school hockey guys never made the differentiation and trashed him constantly.

Fun facts about Pitkänen and Puljujärvi:
1) Both are #4 picks
2) Both were traded to Carolina from Edmonton
3) Both are from Kärpät, Oulu
4) Both have played together with Aho (Joni with Kärpät 2015-2016). Unfortunately Joni's heel was so bad he could only play like 1 game in a month and then he quit after 3 matches. But those 3 matches played, he was still magical on the ice.

Let us hope that Jesse's career won't have the same ending.

Different circumstances but man I remember people on the old NHL.com board were livid when they traded for Pitkanen, not because of the player but because it sent Erik Cole the other way. Honestly it took some time for a good chunk of the fanbase to appreciate Pits and his game.

This is the borgs big brain plan to make all Finnish players want to force their way here for peanuts.

#Barkov
#Laine
#Rantanen
#Saros
#Valamaki

no one is safe!
If the Rangers get guys for peanuts for the big city life and O6 team reasons, then why not have Carolina get Finns for peanuts because it's practically team Finland?

I mean I don't hate this and for years had assumed at some point he'd be coming here...but the time for a tryout isn't during a cup run.

Welp I guess we're now a random bottom pairing D man away from calling it a day in yet another lackluster TDL.

Jesse didn't mesh with McDavid, may well find old chemistry with Aho. This may turn out to be a real steal.

Also Jesse will probably soon sign a 1Mish deal with the Canes. That's what Oil GM Holland offered, Jesse said money is ok, but wanted a change of scenery.

Fan favourite coming up.

Okay, after missing on Meier (and every indication is that we tried very hard to get him), what player, exactly, would you have liked the team to pursue?

Seems like puck moving d-men really weren't valued in general until a couple years after Pitkanen exploded his foot, no?

Bro, IDK that is the best I can do. The other option is I have an apoplectic fit.

But I don't think they "tried hard" to get him- they tried without offering the value commiserate with getting a guy like that. And there are a lot of quality players changing hands like every year, yet none wind up here. "Oh, just wasn't in the cards this year" can't be the excuse every single year.

I mean, from what I understand, our alleged offer was comparable to the one New Jersey offered, if not better. But it sounds like either San Jose wasn’t negotiating with us in good faith, or Meier may have simply preferred Jersey due to the nationalist connection.

Obviously, it’d be great if we acquired some major game-changing piece, but it’s not like we can force players here. It seems like every time there’s that game-changing piece available, we’re (at least) in the conversation, and that‘s all you can ask for.

No, I was referring to your description of Fast being not very good this year and then in the same paragraph saying he is going to get a raise. I agree it will happen, but it is just funny. Failing upwards sort of thing.

Oh yeah, definitely. Past performance, and maybe the promise of a “breakout” in the top 6 of a terrible team, means he’s not a $2M guy in this NHL. Someone’s bound to fall for it, just not Canes management.

Meh Jesse is only 2.25 Mil if u subtrack Noessen , better tradeoff , put him in front of the net with his 6'4 frame and Noessen can go back to the AHL and be great again.
Too Bad we didnt get Kapanen (for Free) and Mcglinn is waivered by the penguins good options , tired of seeing Noessen wasting minutes , he should be 4th line playing 6-7 mins max

Best place for him to fit in and find his role and confidence. He won't let you down defensively, and if he does get to play with Aho there will be offense too. If anyone knows how to make Pulju offensively useful, it's Aho. Physically everything is there but he might need Aho to mentor him.

No risk, high reward.
