Right or wrong regarding the contractual agreement, courts will decide but regardless youd think that a 4.4 billion dollar person would have more compassion for a homeless shelther, when its only costing him 5 million.

Love how people like to push this narrative of "well because X-person has soooooo much more money than everyone else, they should just give Y-group the money, regardless of terms or anything. It's just in a drop the bucket for them."

Doesn't matter if Katz wins in court, he loses on publicity on this one. Probably not worth the PR hit if they had already factored this (that they'd owe an extra $5M) as a potential scenario when signing the deal for the land

According to documents, Katz's real estate group is trying to take back or not give a 5million dollar donation that they originally promised and negotiated with Boyle Street Community Service.

From my understanding, Katz group bought the downtown property from Boyle Street Community Service , which houses the homeless in Edmonton. Part of the negotiation was this donation to help with the relocation of Boyle Street Community Service.

Katz is arguing he shouldnt have to provide the 5 million dollar donation anymore because the Non-profit organization didnt do enough fundraising on their own.

Katz networth btw is 4.4 Billion.

What a terrible look for Katz. Is Katz behind this, or this his group doing it. Either way it's not a good look and pretty damn petty.

Not trying to defend billionaires, but the charity broke the agreement and raised money for other projects to keep their fundraising just under the amount needed to get the full 5 million from Katz - they are deliberately playing games to suck more money from him. Again, not defending billionaires but this one’s on the Boyle Street Charity.
yeah that's exactly what you're doing

You just drag it out like a year, and you make plenty of interest to pay the sum plus legal fees. Some of you never took Being Rich 101 I see.

It doesn't even have anything to do with hockey.
It does have something to do with a hockey owner and the relationship with they have with their market. If this place is where I think it is it's just blocks away from Rexall. He probably wants to clear the homeless from around the Ice District.

"But according to court documents, Katz Group and Boyle Street also signed an agreement for a "backstop gift," agreeing that if Boyle Street was unable to meet its fundraising goal on its own during the campaign, the Katz Group would give it an extra $5 million."

Ya, who couldn't see that one coming? A promise of free money. If they couldn't raise it. Drops all incentive to fund raise.
