I don't know a single Oilers fan on this board who said we're "cup favourites", especially given the fact not a single thing was done to address our goaltending or defense this offseason, which everyone would admit needed to be our priorities.

Draisaitl and McDavid said in an interview it was "cup or bust" this offseason when they were talking about goals for the team, but that's markedly different than what you (and numerous others of your club) keep saying day in and day out.

Interesting that some of you continue with this narrative when a team from their division won the Cup and they had four 100+ point teams last season then the 4th place team in the "weakest division" beat the division winner from the Central and the division winner from the "weakest division" crushed the central winner then crushed the team that crushed the Leafs.

A team that wasn't good enough last year added Connor Brown, shrugged, and packed it in for the summer.

Nobody anywhere thought they'd be this bad, but there's an awful lot not going right at the moment. It'll come around but the question is do they make a stupid trade or fire someone before it does.

One thing the Oilers organization doesn't react well to is public embarrassment. If the Heritage Classic goes poorly on Sunday, I think we'll see a reaction.

A lot are say Campbell was great last night and he made some beauty saves but some of those goals weren't good either.

I have this theory that shitty goalies make amazing saves. The great goalie is in position and just 'swallows it up'. The shitty one is way out of position and sticks out a glove/paddle/blocker and makes the Play of the Night! They also usually let in a few stinkers per game.

OR, since that is a small sample size...

Almost 40 games averaging below .890

I still say fix the D first.

I know it’s joked about a lot but if this keeps up players will start wanting out for real. No one’s playing in Edmonton for any reason other than to win a cup.

I would be shocked if Draisaitl re-ups (unless Edmonton wins a Cup). Then if he goes, you wonder about McDavid. The Leafs could just replace the Tavares slot with McDavid if he wanted to go the homecoming route.

As much as campbell stats suck, his GSAE is -2.1. That isn’t great but it’s not horrible. And to me the oilers D, namely eckholm and bouchard have been a tire fire.

I don't even think if Drai and McDavid focus defensively it will solve anything. You mentioned Nurse as being defensively responsible which is laughable as he is anything but that. Nurse, Ceci, Kulak, Bouchard and Desharnais are very mediocre in terms of playing defensively. Ekholm is the only one that is competent. Add to that the fact woodyboy doesn't employ a defensive first system and doesn't have everyone play defense as a committee or a 5 man unit when on the ice and you see the results you see today. All the goals scored shows couple of Oilers on ice always being clueless when it happens. The coach is also at fault imo. They need to change their coach first, get a good defensive system or structure and have players buy in and from there remove the players that don't fit into that system. That's how you improve the team but too bad GM Holland is also clueless regarding that. And as long as they have Campbell and Skinner as their goalie duo, they won't get far in playoffs. They should also look for a legit number 1 goalie not another backup.

You seem to think that it's a talent problem, then it's a system problem. I think it's a system problem. Nurse and the like will look terrible defensively in a system that cheats defense in order to score offense. The only reason that Ekholm looks decent(sometimes) is because he cut his teeth in a defensively oriented team in NSH. I predict that soon he will start to be the new whipping boy, just like Larsson was, as he is left alone on an island time after time.

BTW, you completely misrepresented what I typed in my post above. I don't know how you can get "Nurse is defensively responsible", from mentioning Nurse as a player who MIGHT benefit from a better team defensive approach. I even stated that he was lost right now.

If the team leaders refuse to buy into a defensive approach, especially team leaders that have far more support from the fans and upper management that the coach does, then nothing will change.

Is the proper approach to have McDavid score more? RNH "only" had 104 points last year... not good enough? Same with Draisaitl's 128 points? Bouchard... not enough points? It's madness.
