What can you possibly be upset about? You have "The Core Four" and Auston has the funny mustache and they are running it back the exact same for the thousandth time in a row like you all seem to crave so badly. And now they will have respect because Ryan Reaves. Aren't you on top of the world?
Yes?

Here is the lineup:

McLeod-McDavid-Hyman
Kane-Draisaitl-Foegele
'Holloway-RNH-Gagner
Lavoie-Hamblin-Ryan

Ekholm-Bouchard
Nurse-Ceci
Kulak-Desharnais

Skinner

The forward-lines completely lack any defensive awarness. Not 1C that play good 2-way play. It`s all out offense, so no help from the forwards in your own zone. I`d actually try trading Draisaitl for a reliable 2-way C + adds. Hopefully some defensive hardnose wingers.
At D, Edmonton has the probably most overpaid D at the moment - Nurse. Stay-at home D:s missing. Try to get rid of Nurse with picks added and get some lowcost stay-at-home D:s

Goalies have been more than mediovre for ages on Oilers. It absolutely has something to do with the other lineup, because the goalies tend to be better as soon they get out or were better before. Still, the goalie isnt good enough.

I`d target for Draisaitl:

Carolina - Jesper Kotkaniemi C 4.8M until 2030 + adds. He is suddenly looking to become a reliable 2c

Florida - Luostarinen and Lundell + more

Arizona - Bjugstad, Maccelli + more

Dallas - Hintz staright up.

All give some more capspace and defensive play from forwards.

Carolina, Florida, Arizona and Dallas likely don't make those trades. Easier to just wait for Drai to walk in free agency. Do people actually expect the Oilers will win any McDrai trade? This is pretty much the same org that thought trading those picks for Reinhart (which, I contend, pretty much confirmed the McDrai era was inevitably gonna be a dud) was a good idea.

The only thing worse than the Oilers start would be giving up Leon for any of those packages.
Really? :D Draisaitl will command 12M+ on his next contract and bury the team even deeper... Thoose guys actually try to defend and saves valuable cap for years to come. In Hintz you get a 1C, who actually can defend too and has been PPG+ for 2yrs now, play PK and is signed longterm for 8.45M

Tonight is when I realized for certain that McDavid and Draisaitl are 100% gone when their contracts are up, if not sooner. This was the final nail in the coffin. Why would they ever stick around for more years of this shit show? They have completely checked out and the team is broken. A new coach isn’t going to fix anything. The boat anchor contracts are unmovable. They can’t draft. They have no assets to fix the massive flaws in the roster. They have no cap flexibility. The McDavid era is cooked.

Did the Oilers think they were gonna have another record setting PP this year? Because that was the only reason they made it to the playoffs and won a round last year. Defense and goaltending are atrocious.
