GDT: oilers night 2025 - maybe playing another supposedly good slumping team will make our supposedly good slumping team acquire a winning streak

  • Xenforo Cloud will be upgrading us to version 2.3.5 on March 3rd at 12 AM GMT. This version has increased stability and fixes several bugs. We expect downtime for the duration of the update. The admin team will continue to work on existing issues, templates and upgrade all necessary available addons to minimize impact of this new version. Click Here for Updates
  • We're expecting server maintenance on March 3rd starting at midnight, there may be downtime during the work.
It's really baffling to have this kind of talent be so ineffective at putting the puck in the net. We have 6 players that have put up 30+ goals in a season. Yet this year, they're all just "off." They're in the right places to score, but the puck isn't falling for them. I'm not sure what can be done about that.

I don't know. But, it's getting frustrating having all this talent go to waste and having them go into scoring slumps.

I'm convinced prime Wayne Gretzky would go 3 weeks without a goal playing here.

I agree. I do feel we are obviously a few offensive pieces away, but how much of it do you think are the line combos?

Curious to hear your thoughts on what you'd do with the lines.

I don't think the issue is with the lines. Because again, the lines are getting good chances. But those chances don't get converted. The question is why aren't they getting converted? Why are players that can (and have in the past) score goals unable to do so now?

Take the Rantanen chance late in the 3rd. Svech finds him open in the slot, he pulls a small deke to get Pickard out, then fires it wide. That's one he normally converts on. Same with Aho's breakaway. Or Roslovic's wide open net.

We're getting plenty of opportunities to score, but they're not going in. Figure out why that's happening and we'll suddenly become a much more dangerous team

The Roslovic one was only able to be saved by Pickard because the EDM stick slowed it down getting to Roslovic. I was impressed Roslovic shot it as clean as he did given the speed change.

my last thought:

I love Rod and wouldn't trade him for the world. BUT, as has been noted, he's so bad at making adjustments, especially when it comes to underperforming veterans. I think it will just take roster changes to actually force his hand. And that's obviously not going to happen til next year at the earliest.

I don't expect to win the Cup this year--never did--but I'll enjoy the ride while it lasts.

It's pretty damning of him to continue to give Burns these top minutes. Burns gets beat left and right and makes constant f***-ups. If this was Jackson Blake, he'd be sent down to the Wolves in a heartbeat.

All this does is send a message that if you're a veteran you get a pass. We're at the point where the playoffs are not guaranteed. Does Rod want to lose the team or does he want to hurts Burns feelings by giving him less minutes? Or going all out and say to hell with the iron man streak, bring me Scott Morrow

A coach without job security would be making changes.

Team isn’t going anywhere other then maybe a first round win with the defence as is just isn’t good enough
Agreed plus out of the 6 only ghost is not just an offensive wall protector.

We have no one with creativity in the zone or who can lead a breakout. Maybe Morrow is that guy but he is buried in Chicago (Chicago btw is not having a great year either).

Orlov’s game has fallen right off and on a good team I think Chatfield is a third pair guy and we all know where burns should be. Slavin and Walker are the 2 most reliable guys

THE RENT IS DUE.

THE DIE IS CAST.

BORG HAVE SINNED.

THEY MUST PAY.

I went to a bush league (sphl) game last night. I had the choice. Canes at 600 bucks for tickets parking and hotel, or Roanoke ralilyard dawgs for like 50.

They won 4-0. They cared. There were fights. It was fun. Which is more than I can say for the canes and why I haven't been this year.. This game is the exact reason why..

First round out, possibly swept in embarrassing style (which will change nothing) if we don't fail our way out.

Guentzel is a grinder. Most star quality players are not
Guentzel is a cerebral player who can find open spots while others were grinding on the boards. He could do some board work too but was more often heading to the net while others played the boards.

Rantanen is much more of a grinder who wins board battles and protects the puck and can throw fantastic passes to the front. But if he’s doing that he can’t finish those passes which is what he was brought here to do.
