Nurse has a long way to go before he's signing a deal with a 4M cap hit.

And if he gets to the point that he is worth signing a Klefbom/Larsson style long term deal around 4M, well that's a good problem to have.

Wingers?! You want wingers?! Don't you fret; here in Toronto we have nothing but wingers! Diminutive wingers! Skilled wingers! Powerful wingers! We've got wingers for all your winger needs!

Yeah I see us resigning Nurse for 2.5-3M or in that area. He'll be worth every penny.

The Oilers are slim with some prospects on the farm....

- right and left shooting offensive defenseman...
- right wingers
- upcoming goalies

What would it take to get DeAngelo from Arizona?

How could you skimp on centers and left wings! :shakehead

Leafs will happily give up their #1 RW prospect Kasperi Kapanen, for the Oilers aging RHD defenceman Adam Larsson.:sarcasm:

Step 1: Make the playoff for the 1st time in 11 years.
Step 2: Access upcoming prospect depth.

You could have had DeAngelo for table scraps....Now you want him??

The oilers need to win in the next 5-7 years with a prime Mcdavid, and while Lucic is still half decent.

We know, see the **** kicking this proposal has gotten from other Oiler fans.

We're not interested in acquiring prospects or picks. We're more likely to trade our 1st near the deadline than we are trading for a player who has never played a game in the NHL.

Oilers need scouts who can find them players with all those picks after the first round.

Why do you need prospects to fill all those positions? You have a ridiculously young and talented core of:

-McDavid, Draisaitl, RNH, Puljujarvi
-Larsson, Klefbom, Nurse

Get some seasoned players (like Lucic) and do well with the draft picks you have (like Chicago, Detroit, etc. who constantly have mediocre draft pick position and yet develop strong players).

If you need to stock for the future, you might want to look into something they call the draft.

it's a small little gathering of insignificance where a couple of dudes sit around and manage the future of their franchises.

... Wait you've been there?
... You've had how many first overalls?!
... oh what the ****

Everyone is laughing at the OP, but they don't laugh when Chicago has a new NHLer every year playing a nice role for them that they drafted.

Do you think, especially with an upcoming McDaivd deal and Lucic contract, they can keep that team together? They will lose a lot of good depth and maybe even a few nice pieces due to cap space.

Any team who wants to stay competitive needs to keep their prospect pool at least respectable. We've seen this time and time again.

I think it's a fair point, they should be adding futures so when third liner who every one loves asks for 4x6 contract, they can let him go and replace him internally with an ELC.

Sadly Oilers don't have the pieces they would give up that fit the Leafs needs, so we are not a good partner for this.

Let's potentially add this up...

Mcdavid 10 mil
Draisaitl 6 mil
Nurse 4 mil

That is just about 20 mil. (well really around 11 mil. less their current salaries) coming in the next 2 years.

Plus.... JP, Pitlick, Pak, Davidson.... and so on....

Cap problems are coming for sure

Why in the world would Nurse be making 4 mil. More like 1.5/2 until he can prove he is worth more.

LD wont get 6mil right away. And Nurse is not going to get 4 mil right away either down the line both may get this kinda of contract..but not this summer that's for sure. I can see a Rickard Rakell type deal for Leon..Nurse will probably get a 2 year bridge around 2-2.5M

The core for a very solid team is there,so i can understand wanting to keep fresh support pieces coming up through the pipeline .This is where the scouts will earn their money ,trying to find gems which lower picks

You might want to look at our core and what physical development phase they are at.
how long they are contracted or rights controlled

18-20yr Pre core Development
21-23yr core development
24-26 Adult mass development
------------------------------------ these guys are still growing
27-30 plateau
31+ decline

Current:
Pouliot 30 (3yr)- Mcdavid 19 (7-9yr)- Eberle 26 (3yr)
Lucic 28 (7yr)- RNH 23 (5yr) - Puljujarvi 18 (8-10yr)
Maroon 28 (2yr) - Draisatl 21 (6-8yr) - Kassian 25 (2-4yr)
Slepyshev 22 (6-9yr) - Lander 25 (2-3yr) - Pitlick 25 (3-4yr)
Pakarinen (25) (2-4yr) - Caguilla 22 (5-7 yr)

Klefbom 23 (7yr) - Larsson 24 (5yr)
Davidson 25 (3-5yr) - Sekera 30 (5yr)
Nurse 21 (7-10yr) - Benning 22 (5-8yr)

Talbot 29 (3yr)

In the system:
high trenders
Khaira #63 3rd 2012 6'3' 215lb (22) LW/C #1 AHL 1.75 PPG +1.25 Goal dif
Vesel #153 6th 2014 5'11" 190 (22) C #2 NCHC 1.38 PPG
Rasanen #153 6rd 2016 6'0" 197 (18) W/C #3 U19 USHL 1.10 PPG
Paigin #209 7rd 2015 6'6" 205 (20) D #1D/ #6 player U24 KHL .67 PPG

Now that the oilers have some core depth for the next 3-5 years.
it gives our prospects time to develop.
we can start looking at draft +4 yr.
(5yr) in to development

you are clearly confused!

step1: win a Conf championship
Step 2: win the Cup

2 teams win a championship each year
2- pennat winners
1 cup champ.

there are 28 loser teams each year.
Aspiring to just make the playoffs is a loser org approach!

Some are lucky enough to get in the lottery.
others make a who bunch of money for owners while winning nothing for the loser fans.

Oilers won a championship in 06.
have not won one since.

Are you a fan lucky enough to have had your team won a championship since 05-06?
