While the first period was a poor effort and that is what ultimately too big a hole to climb out of, instead of giving up the team responded well and played hard the final two periods. Nonetheless, a 60 minute effort back-to-back would have been a positive sign.

You know, if they had played proper hockey in the first period we would have won this game.

But no, we had to let them get 3 goals up on us, so Hopkins gets double shifted to hell in a losing effort.

Happy with Eberle, Hopkins and Yakupov tonight.

Get rid of Aulie.

Well I missed the first, but it looked like they didn't quite at least. So that's something I guess.

Hope Yakupov is OK.

At least someone else was watching this.

Petry isn't nearly as good as people here think he is. Poor man's Tom Gilbert, at most.

Don't know what the hell you guys watched but Schultz, Aulie and Petry were by far better than the other three (Fayne wasn't as bad as the other 2) and Petry certainly didn't play particularly poorly. If only they weren't paired with

So no I have no idea what you two saw.

We've seen this type of thing happen with the Oilers in the past. Teams blow them out early then the Oilers have a push back that inevitably fails.

Did they even have a shot in the final 5 minutes of the game?

They actually out shot the Preds in the 3rd.

I get the frustration but with this defence and centre group what the hell are people expecting?

There's no positives to take out of a loss where you give up 3 in the first period. Especially when you're 0-7-1 against your own conference. The fact that they haven't won a game against the West 6 weeks into the season is simply unacceptable. How no changes have been made yet... is beyond me.

Yup...winless in 8 against the West is bad. No doubt about it.

That said I was expecting this team to be below .500 against the West. When that sample size become 25-30 games and the futility remains then I will join the chorus.

Maybe my expectations are just lower than most at this point. :dunno:

Of course...most of the same young players are still here. No **** they still have the same lessons to learn.

Thats how it works sometimes.

That being said how you can watch this team and still whine about negatives ALL THE TIME is beyond me. If you care to look there are some positive arrows with this team.

I mean what the hell were you expecting? Did you not look at the lineup before the season?

Yeah, not sure what some were expecting (GreatKeith just likes to whine about everything all the time), although a win against the west would be nice.

There's a lot to not like about the team and organization as a whole but I think relative to expectations, the team is about on par with where they should be. It's an underwhelming roster with tons of holes all over the place but at least they are putting in a more honest effort this season at least to my eye.

I think they are clearly more competitive than they were last season so baby steps, it's about all we can ask for with this limited roster.

Exactly.

This perspective fits right in with my take on the team at this point in time.

Where is that SNL graphic for Lowered Expectations when you need it. :D

Go back and watch that first period...tell us how many times Petry moved the puck out of his own end. You won't need many fingers to count it.

Good thing Katz changed the Rexall logo. They wouldn't wanna be associated with this team.

Lol. That's too much to ask? Until then... yeah like I said. No positives from a loss.

And just because someone is expecting a terrible team doesn't mean they can't be upset about it when it actually happens.

Perron deserves a lot of credit on that Yakupov goal.

If Pouliot-RNH-Eberle continue to play well, I think you have the luxury of pairing Hall + Yak together so at least there's that.

Refs put away the whistles at end.. should've had at least 3pps in 3rd.. not that they help

Maybe the NHL tell the refs to put away their whistles so the Oilers could get McDavid or Eichel.

Do you work for the oilers? We're still at oh well can't expect much, baby steps stage? What an utter crock. With these baby steps these guys will be 25 or 26 and still not making the playoffs. There are a few players to like about this team.

There is almost nothing to like about this organization. Talk about giving these bozos a free pass. Unbelieveable.
