RNH for Barrie. I'd do it, I think the Avs do it as part of a pseudo three-way to get them a defenceman. Helps Edmonton immensely and it's probably a near-wash in cap space once Barrie's extension is in place.

RNH, is not the type of player they'd look for in return. Denver media has also reported that the price is Draisaitl, and that's probably why it has not happened.

I doubt anything new happens with Barrie until the day of his arbitration hearing.

If its Draisaitl, I can't see it happening. Not with the expansion draft next summer. Drai and other good young players who are draft exempt are worth their weight in gold. And there's a lot of weight on that boy. Not sure if he is actually exempt or not, but if he is it makes him a complete non-starter. If not, he's probably a non-starter anyway as he is our only center with size.

Would the Avalanche consider a 3-way trade here? You send us Barrie, we send the mystery team Nugent-Hopkins, and what type of piece would the mystery team need to send to Colorado to finish this off?

Yeah sure, convince Winnipeg to trade Trouba to us for RNH, and you can have Barrie. Unfortunately that is ideal for everyone except Winnipeg.

That Anaheim deal above I'd say no to, I'd want that addition to be more than a 3rd round pick personally. Anaheim also isn't getting enough, as Edmonton will probably not be drafting in the top 10 next season, especially with Barrie.

Can't we just offer-sheet Barrie? The Avs don't want to pay him 6m, so give him an offersheet that's massively front loaded, way over 6m, that goes down, so it averages to 6m or so.

EDIT: Nope, we can't offersheet because he's going to arbitration. So NVM this.

I don't think Trouba as remotely available. Makes no sense at all for the Jets to move him.

The Jets might trade Tyler Myers once he is healthy though.

You can't top5 protect that 1st round pick. :naughty:

I wouldn't be too worried about that. With Klefbom, Barrie, Larsson, Sekera, Davidson, Fayne, Nurse, etc., our D would be looking very nice, and I think we'd at least be out of the bottom 10 for the foreseeable future.

But he's going to arbitration, apparently, so no-go for offersheet.

I agree, which is why if we are not getting the type of defender we want out of the deal, it would have to be for an asset that fits in with what they are building.

The only other thing besides a defender is a young #2 center with size, that could bring a different dynamic as a 1A/1B with MacK.

Duchene and MacK are similar, and Duchene scores more goals at RW than he does at center. RNH is not someone they would want with his injury history, and having to face the central, and Western conference in general.
