Post-Game Talk: Oilers die on the Hill

And how many shut outs does Skinner have? We outshot and out chanced them but it doesn't matter when your goalie spots them a goal. That was a perfect preview of layoff hockey against a good team. They are tough to beat when they are playing well, we can't afford to spot them goals and expect to win in a 7 game series against them.
Four times they’ve been shutout this season. Thats as many times as all of last season + playoffs. We were basically shut out against Columbus too. Utah put up a touchdown against the Knights and we couldn’t even manage one.

For those blaming Skinner on this loss your credibility as a goaltending expert just went to zero.
Those defending Skinner can’t possibly have seen the game. Or if they did, they must have been drunk. The mustard clowns had nothing going at any point in the game. Skinner let in a softie as he usually does … and then tried to let in the very next shot but the post saved him. He was not ready to go, and made one decent save all night. One. On Hertl. Other than that he had nothing to do all night. The opposition had two shots in the entire third period. And only five in the first (two of which beat him as already stated). Most goalies would kill for that workload. With Skinner the only safe workload is zero shots.

Rishaug with a laughable take on the got yer back podcast saying that by the time the 4 Nations tournament starts Skinner will not only be deserving of a spot on the roster, but probably the starter’s role as well. :dunce:

It seems ludicrous, but it could actually happen that Skinner ends up on the roster of that tournament.

The quality of Canadian goaltenders in the NHL has never been weaker, the days of Brodeur/Loungo/Price dominating the league are long gone now.

Great game by the Oilers!

- For an offensive defensemen Bouchard had a horrible final 2 mins.
- Nuge needs a shake up.
- Mcdavid really brought the energy tonight. It's a good sign.
- Despite what ya'll say, Stuart Skinner played great. This is what we need from him.

We play them again soon and need to steal the points back.

Doubt Skinner or Bouchard make it.

Package Skinner and Bouchard up and find a way to pry Sorokin and Dobson out of NYI. Those two idiots have costed more than half of our losses this season.

Glad I went to sleep after the Vegas goal. Sometimes the combination of my early wake up time for work and these stupid late puck drop times is for my own good.

Games against Hill are scheduled losses at this point anyways. I don't really give a s***. On to the next one.

the Oilers should have won if McDavid and Draisaitl did their jobs...why are they let off the hook?
This is what I don't understand. People wanted Skinner to cut back on the GA and improve his sv%. Like I can see both sides of the argument on the goal against. On one hand I think Skinner was fooled when the pass was blocked, on the other it still went five hole.

But how long does it take these guys to score a goal? Why is our offense so predictable? I can't find the stat for number of times a team has been shut out this season but we are already at 4 and were damn close to 5.

I'm tired of the "We got goalie'd" excuse. Our vaunted offense is sitting below the league average.

Also one glance at the standings has us barely in the second wild card spot.

This team, even with the injuries, getting shut out 4 times in the first 25 games is unacceptable.

People can blame Skinner all they want and it seems like that's all some posters seem to do which is tiring (especially when he largely does his job) but it's impossible to win when you score zero goals and just about every time a goalie gives up 1 it should be good enough.

Skinjob lets in a deflating goal and the opposing team traps to a win. More at 11
The Oilers scored zero goals. If a team gets deflated the entire game by a 1st period goal then they are mental midgets who don't deserve anything. Score a goal and it goes to OT, one goal ONE would be nice.

Skinner has given up 4 goals in the last 3 games against the Rangers, Colorado and Vegas. I think people need to chill with the Skinner criticism right now. Bad start to the season but he's been fine lately.

Not being able to score is a feature of this team.

And this league is incredibly boring to watch. The mandates make the product unwatchable.
Was at the Jets Blues game last night and it was horribly boring. Hardly any calls not many chances.... ugh playoffs are so far away.

Only HF oiler fans would blame the goalie in a 1 to 0 loss lol. He should stepped up and scored a goal! Looser !

Not mad

We played well. Hill was amazing

For a 1-0 game that was highly entertaining

The 3rd period panic push was sort of entertaining but the first 2 periods were watching grass grow. It was terrible kitty bar the door - flood the front of the net - bullshit hold the 1-0 lead hockey that has the entertainment value of organizing your underwear drawer.

That defence should be made illegal the way zone defence was in basketball as it absolutely ruins the game.

Some night it’s a complete snooze fest. I have barely watched any non oilers game in probably 10 years on TV. Becuase why would i?

Youd think a sport that could be blazing fast would be fun to watch regardless of who is playing. But nope.

Thought they played well, just couldn't finish. I hope stetcher is ok. On to the jackets

Played well in the 3rd but you have to admit they didn’t bother to push in the first 2 periods. They let Vegas keep them to the outside in both periods getting only 12 shots most of them from the outside. They really backed into the game which is the MO for this group for years now and it cost them a cup last year.

I try to stay positive but just frustrated this season with yet another inept management group and the Oilers not figuring out that starting late costs them games - and championships.

Let me say it another way. Stu’s Performannce doesn’t change if Brown buries that chance instead of whiffs it. Sorry that’s just how it is.
I get what you are saying- but context matters. If Brown scores- Skinner’s massive blunder gets covered up. But he didn’t- so it doesn’t. That’s my take

Yeah, there was virtually no effort put in during the first two periods. Vegas was content to sit back and keep the Oilers to the outside. The Oilers played right into the Knights' hands and after they got waxed by Utah it was obvious to basically everyone that they were going to tighten up defensively. The Oilers had.. what like maybe 2 odd man rushes the entire game?

I dread the possibility of facing these guys in the playoffs again.
