I almost didn't read the article because I thought I'd get annoyed and then I read it .. and got more annoyed.

Our GM's are awful. We need a nerd! Not old boys club. Not Team Canada. Not a legend. Not a former Oiler. Give me a nerd who understands how caps work and can make some projections. Our last 3 GMs are clearly using the back of napkins to do their math.

Addon: For the people who think that the Oilers could have kept Holloway, McLeod and Foegle and give them the same ice time they get now, here is a bit of very simple math.

A team plays 3 forwards at a time, so the total ice time for forwards is roughly 180 minutes per game (PP/PK,EN can add or subtract few second).

The Oilers are currently playing:
McD 22:08
Drai 21:39
Hyman 19:09
RNH 18:52

and those would not be bumped down by the above mentioned players. So if we add
Holloway 16:49
McLeod 16:35
Foegle 16:07

they would have 7 players who played 131:19. That means that the remaining 5 forwards would average about 9 minutes per game.

To make things worse, the 7 forwards would combine for more PP time than the Oilers currently get per game... But somehow they would still get the same quality ice time.

Who is saying they should get exact the same playing time? I think it is clear that the top six of Edmonton could certainly need a player like Holloway and maybe even one of the other two.

Draisaitl and McDavid are playing too much… there are always injuries, I would love to have all of them and roll a strong top 9 and have a forth line that plays hard on lower minutes. And come playoffs the Oilers anyway basically just rely on 11 forwards as their star centers get double shifted with the 4th line wings.

Seems like shifting the goalposts when the real error was in the lack of any clear development plan for the two players and the subsequent breakdown in trust.

Jackson did an interview in December where he acknowledged the mistakes the Oilers made that led to the offer sheets, and talked about how they have completely changed their approach to player development as a result.

Hard to tell without knowing the context of the quote but it appears Bowman isn’t inclined to that same level of accountability

One would expect that a former player agent with the pedigree of Jackson can do some simple math, but by signing Arvy and Skinner he laid the foundation that there was no more cap space left to sign young players they developed with fair deals. Jackson apparently thought they sign adhesion contracts, good that offer-sheets exist and restrictive free agents are not totally at mercy of mgts.

I sometimes wonder what Draisaitl and McDavid think about the inability of the Oilers GMs.

Rodrigue and Pickard about to be running the show! I am high on Rodrigue and think he will be an NHL goalie. But not today and not this season. I like Pickard but I'm not high in him at all.

I was really hoping for a Pickard replacement at TDL.. this is a other reason why.
