Offseason Trade Targets

What if he hasn't asked for it? Does the trade still need to happen?
Yes. That's my point. Even if today Larkin denied the whole thing and said he wants to be a Red Wing for life, I'd still trade him. You can't put the toothpaste back in the tube for two reasons:

1) If there was zero truth to this to begin with, then one or both sides would have immediately spoken out against it. But with how this has unfolded, plus the statements after the 2025 trade deadline and the end of season press conferences, there's more disagreement than just your standard grumbling from somebody having a bad day. The locker room has issues that need to be fixed.

2) This roster is broken even with Larkin. Shake things up, fix the timeline, and move forward with a shot down the road of being more than a first round exit.

I don't think so. Yzerman is like Lou and Larkin agrees what Yzerman say on the matter.

Roster isn't necessarily broken, but parts of it is and to me one of the parts is Larkin cannot be the leader. He can be a team player. So either he is traded or he is removed from the C and team strengthen and youth allowed to just play.

😂 I can’t see him wasting assets for trocheck. Seriously at that point I’d just accumulate 4 1sts and be patience some other players will be available in the next year and after we trade some other guys possibly and our own first we might have. 5-7 1sts we can use in multiple deals

First priority is getting named players/prospects back. Larkin can rot in his moms basement
Agreed

I feel the same way. Still have the miracle hope we get a haul from SJ or Utah though...

Oh, don't disagree with Larkin's contract being better and playing a more valuable position at all... I literally addressed both in the post you quoted.

Also love the "Brady had 55 and 59 points" comment by a radio host who's too stupid to even look at games played. Brady and Larkin's PPG over the last two years is almost identical.

I don't expect much better from 97.1 The Ticket. Believe that's the same station who had a caller that said "Granlund is a good young talent that could be a good target in a Larkin return" and nobody could even correct him that Mikael Grandlund is 34...
Gun to my head I think Brady might be the better player but Larkin being a Center and literally one of the best contracts in the NHL makes his value substantially better IMO...

Larkin literally did 70 in 82 the same year lol.

Larkins point per game over the last two seasons puts him at 72 points by 82, Bradys is at 70. It might be splitting hairs but Larkin has been more productive overall because he's done it in more games as well. Brady has missed a bunch of games and literally hasn't broken 60 points or 30 goals in 2 full seasons in a row.

Larkin is locked up long term to a steal of a contract. He's a center. He's great on draws. Hes better defensively. He penalty kills. He's a much better skater

Larkin is a better player and his trade value will reflect it

They’re saying lots of offer sheets coming….wed of course need our 2027 2nd we gave away right 🤣 Dallas is f***ed probably with Bourque unless they over Robertson . 4.6 to sign him for a 2nd I think anyone would do it

Maybe nill trades him to us if we include like a Lombardi or something with a 2nd 2028?

Even if I thought the two players had identical impact on the ice, when one guy has two years left in his deal and it's the worst kept secret in the league that he really wants to play with his brother, I don't see how Larkin doesn't bring back a better return.

Same guy who was the first to claim we need to get rid of Cossa because of our goalie blockade in Detroit lol.

We clear out several goalies and we get Hellebucyk for cheap? Sure, why not. But trading for Helle just to trade for Helle and use a premium asset for it? Hell no.

When I ran it it was about .8 point difference over 82. Barely more predictive and more reliant on the PP.

Brady's had age on his side, while Larkin has position and contract control on his side. Honestly, I'm kinda surprised Brady even returned what he did, because it seems like he had no intention of going anywhere but Florida.

Its actually not crazy at all though....

What the hell is it with you and posting ludicrous accounts and acting like they're not?

Larkin is a malcontent with a long term contract in Detroit and has a NTC. Saying "Brady T. got 3 assets so I'm getting 4" is a damn good way to disappoint yourself and walk into the season with a very moody Dylan Larkin.

Yes, he should get closer to the value Brady pulled... but Tkachuk was one of the faces of team USA. He has name and face asset cache that Dylan Larkin doesn't. Larkin was on the Olympic team too.. but he was a 3C behind Hughes and Matthews... plus Florida REALLY wanted to have him and Matt play together.

Tkachuk being a face on Team USA likely had little to do with his trade return at all lol.

Put me on ignore dude. I post these "ludicrous accounts" because their idea mirrors what i was going to say and im not about to plagiarize someone else's thoughts. But since you have such a huge problem with me doing this how about you either don't quote me like you love to do or put me on ignore?

Best centers at UFA are Erik Haula, Scott Laughton and Boone Jenner.

Haula probably extending with Nashville.

Larkin is really the only way to really bolster any team's Center department.

UFA market can offer wingers.

But Centers are crap.

Exactly. Larkin is the most valuable trade asset in the NHL right now. His contract is amazing. He should get at least 4 first round picks. Yzerman holds all the cards. If Dylan wants to play hard ball with destinations. "See you at camp with the C ripped off your chest"... also "enjoy being booed by your home state while still playing for them..."

So anyways, where do you rank Larkin's contract specifically, as you claim it's one of the best in the NHL.

Does "One of the best" mean Top 5? Top 10? Top 25?

Has to be at least top ten. Great AAV and term. Top-3 value position in hockey. He plays in all situations. Wins faceoffs. Larkin has his warts but he is definitely worth a ton and can catapult a playoff team to a serious contender especially if he get slotted in his true position #2C. If we already had a #1C I would give a boat load up for Dylan Larkin if he wasn't already on Detroit.... before his trade request my hope was we would sell the farm for a #1C and then move Larkin to #2 but that ship has obviously sailed...
