lets see how Moore performs in camp as well. He's been out of the league a year.

Absolutely. I'm in no hurry to trade him. I was just saying what his value is. Even for a 2nd, the Rangers might feel we are better off keeping him.

Do you want Asham and Powe?

Nah, more looking for a very good 4th line center like Boyle.

I am not Brian Boyle's biggest fan, most here can attest to that.

Brian Boyle is a 4th liner with exceptional PK ability and an above average face off guy.

If I am trading him, I want McCarron and the 3rd in return at the very least.

McCarron is a big bodied project that may turn out to be what Brian Boyle is today.

The only reason I would consider this is to shed the salary to make additional room should someone sneak up on us with an offer sheet for Stepan.

Other wise, I'd prefer to keep Boyle.

There's no incentive to trade Boyle.

So the price for Boyle is a 1st + 3rd at least, i'll pass. Good day sir!

I wouldn't. Lots of people here would.

I wouldn't either, not now.

We are a soft small team. Boyle is a big player with the ability to stand up for his teammates. He scored from and played well on the wing in the POs. He is a very good 4th line center. I want to see how things sort themselves out. On paper, Asham and Pyatt is definitely the players I'd get rid of if possible.i wonder if it is possible though.

Things will be clearer what we have in mid October. Lindberg, Fasth, and/or JT Miller could be steady top 9 forwards for us by then. Kristo? 9 unimpressive AHL games is not a great sign, but he is a talented player. How good will Pouliot be?

McIlrath? I have a feeling that AV could like him, but maybe it's a bit too early...

My team right now:

1.
Kreider-Stepan-Nash
McD-MDZ
//I am not sold on MDZ as a left D, if I am to put him there it's with a right handed center though. Get this line a lot of zone starts. Size along the boards. Let Nash work his magic.

2.
Brassard-Richards-Zucc
Staal-Stralman
//Staal would daddy this pretty soft line. Richards would get up ice.

3.
Hagelin-Lindberg-Callahan
Moore-Girardi
//The best line on the team in relation to the normal expectations on a 3rd line. If Lindberg is ready, this is a very strong 3rd line that would also chip in with a lot of offense. That type of depth is along with great goaltending is what will get us into the POs.

4.
Pouliot-Boyle-Dorsett

There is certainly a lot of depth on our roster. I am not listing JT Miller, but I think he is ready. Pyatt is also not listed. Asham. Fasth will challenge.

This isn't going to go over well....

In before Puncroxxnyr posts 13 videos of Boyle losing a fight.

There's really no room for Miller, Kristo or Lindberg to make the team, especially if JTM or OL are going to play center. Even if they move to wing, there are no spots available unless someone goes down with injury. I guess Kreider, Kristo, Fast and Miller could be battling for the same spot, but I think the Rangers are going to give it to Kreider again unless one of the others has a spectacular camp.

I guess if the kids really impress, we could see a lot of moves made.

Roster makeup before the Stepan signing...

If both Stepan and Mashinter sign - we are at 48 contracts. Can see us moving 1-2 players if rehab goes smoothly for Hags/Cally and/or if any young guns look good at training camp. Likely to go would be

  1. Powe
  2. Pyatt
  3. Asham
  4. Boyle

Or just do nothing for a while after demoting Asham or Powe to the AHL as we can then still squeeze in under the cap (pending Stepans deal), especially if Stepan only gets a bridge deal now (which I think is looking more & more likely). Maybe 3 years at 3,3-3,5 range.

Maybe something like:
  • Demote Powe
  • Keep a kid up or do a signing of a short term reclamation project ladded with bonuses (something like 1 + 1). Candidates here would be someone like Raymond, Morrow, Prospal...
  • Trade Pyatt (for a pick when injuries become a factor but before Cally and/or Hags return)

I dunno...

* - includes bonus money in contract
ELC - denotes player on Entry Level Contract
NTC - denotes No Trade Clause in Contract
NMC - denotes No Movement Clause in Contract

2014 Draft picks
  • 1st round NYR
  • 2nd round NYR
  • 3rd round NYR
  • 4th round NYR
  • 5th round Florida (for Casey Wellman)
  • 6th round NYR
  • 7th round NYR*

  • NO 5th rounder NYR traded to San Jose for Ryan Clowe in 2013 - conditions being if he does not resign with NYR - then San Jose gets the 5th pick.
  • Eventually NO 7th rounder (conditionally traded to San Jose along with Tommy "horror-movie" Grant for Brandon Mashinter 2013 - condition being if he resigns with NYR then San Jose gets the pick). B. Mashinter has now been qualified - likely meaning this pick is going to San José

love seeing Boyle getting knocked down by players smaller than him.. for a big guy he is soft... cant stay on his feet...

That last one is all attitude.

Boyle does not have the attitude to play a big mans game which is why he gets knocked down by smaller players.

The Neil and Pheanuf hits I can see as Boyle did not see them coming.

Douglas Murray? Looking at each other, knowing full well contact was going to be made. Boyle goes down like a sack of potatos.

So sad to watch that happen game in and game out.

Boyles a huge guy, and most huge guys have lousy balance on skates. Especially when they're caught off guard. Hell, even Chara gets dumped on his ass from time to time. Falling on your ass doesn't make a guy soft. That's asinine.

There's really no room for Miller, Kristo or Lindberg to make the team if they're going to play center. Even if they move to wing, there are no spots available unless someone goes down with injury. Thats how I see it shaping up. I think a kid or two gets a cup of coffee if/when Callahan and Hagelin are recovering to start the season.

Again, I dont know how I feel. Its hedging moreso than committing to a direction, which is par for the course. The silver lining is perhaps Sather is learning his lesson - the Sather of old would've signed Pouliot for 3 years. This, of course, is a lesson he should'nt have had to learn in the first place.

Huh? It was a borderline late hit.

I can't help but wonder what this team would be shaping up as if we weren't constantly shuffling big names in and out. Each year our kids seem to be the reliable ones and they continue to take on larger roles. Each year we see a large number of hired guns **** the bed. You would think they'd figure it out by now.

I like the Pouliot signing in a vacuum, but it's strange in the grand scheme of things. Is he just a guy the Rangers are comfortable with as a fill-in who can start the year on the ice and finish it on the bench if a kid takes a leap forward? Seems like too much foresight to ask of this group.

I think they saw value at the salary they gave him and assume that if a young kid beats someone out, they can recoup some assets. At least that's what I hope.

I just dont even see what the lines are going to look like, it appears we will once again have players who don't excel in their roles.

Pretty much every player in the NHL is smaller than Boyle. Should he never fall?

No, he's allowed to go down.

The problem I have is the ratio in which he is the one picking himself up off the ice is greater than the guy he's hitting.

Boyle for as big as he is, doesn't play to his size and strengths. That is the issue, I have with him.

He only does in the playoffs... I wish he would play like that over the full 82.

I was going to say "Ahhh, offseason.... " but Boyle falling down is a pretty significant talking point during the season, too.

If Boyle cut his falling down in half, how many extra points in the standings do you think that would mean for the Rangers?
