3.3 million for a #3 center? That is what Anisimov is making for the next 3 years until he is UFA. Brassard makes 3.2 this season and then is a RFA. They, potentially, could have Brassard locked up for a longer period of time than Anisimov if he goes to UFA.

Yeah, but what is Brassard going to get on his next contract? It will be somewhere north of 3.2 per year. For what he's likely to get, and without a strong defensive game, he better be putting up at least 2nd line numbers.

The issue with Brassard is that when he's not contributing offensively, he's useless. And there have definitely been times in Columbus where he has not produced for long stretches. Anisimov at least can PK and play solid defense when he isn't scoring.

Assuming that Brassard's production in 12-13, a lockout-shortened year, is indicative of what type of production he will have going forward is a bit dangerous. Crease is right, I think expectations are too high for him.

The talk was about the Nash deal, so I assumed that's what was being referred to.

I think with a healthy Staal, the Rangers D is excellent. Moore is still a question mark, IMO. Still, until Moore showed up we were missing a reliable #6 defender for the better part of 1 1/2 seasons. Erixon could have filled that void this year much sooner than Moore.

Maybe. Or maybe he doesn't crack Torts lineup. Or not until Staal gets hurt. He is still a left handed D playing for a guy who, right or wrong, really values a L-R setup.

At the end of the day Moore is no more or less a question mark than Erixon. I'd be happy with either. Though I love Moore's skating.

I didn't see much of Erixon last year, but I'd be shocked if he looked better than Moore did.

Moore looked really good. I was really happy with that trade.

Anisimov is a good positional player. However, he rarely PKd and is not strong on the puck. So, although his defensive instincts are very good, his execution is average. He has skills but let's not make him out to be Guy Carboneau. And offensively he is inconsistent. Brass is more of what we need right now; love that little change in the lineup.

And also the premise that Brass is useless when he's not scoring is convenient and dead wrong. He's tougher to play against than Ani and is better on draws. Useless? I think not.

I'd be fine with having AA on that contract.

Would you give Brassard the same contract Little just got (4.7 per, 5 yrs)? Essentially same age, similar stat lines and coming off basically the same deal. Not sure I'd be happy with that, unless he really takes a step forward this year.

Sure, if he scores 55 points and looks to have broken out, hell yes. My guess? 4.2 or somewhere around there.

There's also the small fact that Anisimov is going to get rocked at some point and get seriously injured the way he carries the puck with his head down.

Tort's wouldn't have been using Erixon. Management wasn't enamored with his lack of size either.

Brassard will be arbitration eligible and one year away from group III next July. He has a good season in 13-14 and will be set up nicely to cash in on arbitration and get a long-term deal from some team in the next few years. His QO is $3.7M. $3.2M cap. Good centers are hard to find.

The cap is going up for 14-15 but the Rangers have many players to re-sign.

Lundqvist,Callahan and Girardi are group IIIs. Stralman too.

Del Zotto,Kreider and Brassard are arbitration eligible. Moore is a group II w/no arb rights.

Stepan and Zuccarello need contracts. 21 players filed for salary arbitration. 6 players haven't settled before the hearing. Zuccarello is one of them. The briefs need to exchanged on Monday morning. Any day soon. Right?

He's also the softest 6'4" guy I have ever seen. He never uses his size. It was maddening at times, when a guy would have their head down, AA was on a collision course.....and he goes for a weak poke check.

I like Boyle and I would absolutely trade him for Rundblad. Are you kidding? You don't turn down a cheap chance on a potential gem like Rundblad.

Boyle is one year from UFA.

I can only speak for my self, but I just never believed in Marian Gaborik as a core player on a contender.

He just could not impact a big game in any way than score a goal. Normall he might have scored a goal 40% of the games, but it also felt like he disappeared on the stat sheet in the close games.

With a cap, you gotta pay your dollars to the right players. Looking at the teams that do well since the cap was put in place, it seems like centers and wingers who go deep and feetch the puck and takes it up ice, players that make the players around them better, are the way to go.

Nash opens up a ton of room for the players on his line. He scored a PPG this season, and it still didn't feel like he had adjusted from Columbus to the big scene completely.

Gabby was also a sniper who just own effective on the PP.

In the end, I've seen Gabby all his career. I have nothing against him, I think he is a cool guy etc. But I firmly believe that Gabby never will be a core guy on a contender, at least if he is paid like a 80 pts player.

Nah. I'd make the trades every day of the week. And I really liked Dubi and AA and Erixon...

I think where we differ is how good of a chance Rundblad has to be a gem. He'll be 23before the season starts and has 8 NHL points to his name.

Right now, he's just a skillset to me.

wait, we traded Gabs for 1.5 years of Brassard? If he performs Rangers gotta keep him. He played as a core piece for us last year
