If you look at Semin's highest corsi impact it appears to be shot suppression, so defense.

If I get some time, I'll do a deeper analysis. I love Semin and I think he'd be a GREAT addition at a sensible price.

Yeah I don't have any numbers but ive watched Washington for years and he's always been an excellent 2way player. He's not physical though so obviously he can't play defense as well as Strait.

True. Maybe Strait should be on Tavares' wing.

Or perhaps this guy:

The "Semin is another lazy Russian who doesn't play defense" narrative is one of my all-time favorites.

Its funny, can you believe that there are Russians, like Americans and Canadians, who play defense; and other Russians, like Americans and Canadians, who don't play defense?

Call me crazy, but sometimes I wonder if maybe there ISN'T a fundamental inherent difference between the work ethic, desire, toughness, skill, etc... based on the country you were born in.

But then I remember that Europeans are soft and Russians (who are also Europeans and therefore also soft) are lazy and I know all is right with the world. Gotta have a Canadian captain with a good beard or you'll never win anything.

Is he a righty or lefty? Isles need more righties in the line up.

He's versatile:

Here he is suiting up on the left side:

And here he is on the right side:

He might make a good pairing with Strait, I know they played together for a bit in college. Scouts liked Anchor's footspeed and gap control over Strait's. Would be a real coup to bring him in.

I don't know I'm on the fence. I'll wait to hear the underlying numbers. But to the eye test... He doesn't look like he can play the ever so popular "heavy" style game.

Starting to get the feeling the only signings we will make are going to be for he AHL

We don't have any room for forwards unless we make a trade.

We will sign a back up goalie.

I pray we sign a vet DMan because if not that means we are going into the season with a
Hickey-Strait bottom pair.

In all seriousness one huge weakness of the isles is there lack of one-time shot on the pp. I can't recall but I believe that Semin had a good one-timer. Has a great wrist shot definitely.

Agree, especially with Grabner as a 13th forward and Petrov possibly.

My bet is we sign a Backup goalie(this is obvious) and a defenseman for under 4M

There's no way Strait starts over Pulock

Definitely a heavier game than Strait. More motile as well.

Have to think Semin, along with Pulock, would represent a substantial opportunity for the PP.

I love Semin, I hope we give him a look.

This. All signs point to the path being open now for Pulock to take the open spot on the 3rd pairing. I'm OK with this:

Leddy-Boychuk
Cdh - Hamonic
Hickey - Pulock
Mayfield - Strait (if we carry 8 Dmen)

Looks lime Columbus is getting Saad. Wow, this is really bad news for the Metro if it happens.

I wonder what the price tag is, because I know Snow loves him.

I'd trade Lee + for Saad without a doubt, especially to keep him away from Columbus. They'd instantly jump us IMO.

I'm absolutely stunned about this, all signs pointed to them working things out.

It has to include one of their recent first rounders, right? Maybe two?
