FF7 being episodic would be consistent with their rational for not having remade the game until now, which has always more or less been "big budget games are big." DOOM was like 54 gigs on PS4 for like 12'ish hours of content. Same with something like Uncharted 4. Can't imagine how much space games with that much fidelity would eat if they had 70'ish hours of content.
And yea, everything I've seen of VR for gaming has been pretty bad. Lots of $40 price tags on bare-bones, conceptualized minigame type stuff. It's certainly not going to overwrite traditional gaming and will have to find it's own niche to be successful in that market, but the tech is good and it'll find uses elsewhere--particularly with augmented/mixed reality (or whatever they're calling it) being worked on. I think we'll end up with "traditional" gaming, mobile gaming, and VR gaming as all being fairly separate things/markets.
Pretty much in the same boat as far as gaming releases go this year, as well. I'm buying 3 games on Tuesday and then I feel like (as far as definite release dates go) I'm more or less done for the year. Outside shot on something like No Man's Sky, and I'll definitely get Persona 5 if it makes this year. Not necessarily a comment on the quality of what's coming out, just that Overwatch and Guilty Gear will have some legs for me.
