I don't think we worry about positional need. We gather talent and figure it out later.

I agree that Tolvanen and players of that caliber are highly unrealistic. But theres gotta be prospects in other areas we can get instead for Hayes. We have too many lefthanded dmen prospects as it is so why bring in another one who seems questionable

Guess it depends on what the second asset options are.

A first seems like a given. So then we move to that second component.

As a second component, Stanley isn’t awful. He isn’t great either. But is he better than a third? Is he better than another prospect? Depends.

If it's a 1st and a D prospect for Hayes from Calgary, I seriously doubt it's Kylington, Andersson, or Valimaki. That would be robbery from Gorton unless Hayes is signing an extension.
Maybe it's a larger deal.

They really don't have the space. Giordano, Hanifin, Brodie, Hamonic, Andersson, Kylington and Valimaki... Someone's the odd-man out.

Calgary is good. They're going for it. The west is theirs to lose .

I still find it a little difficult to believe the Rangers can not find a way to take back cap hits for next year and increase the value in any deals.

Either those types of deal are not out there, or the Rangers do not want to do so. The first part I'd understand, the second not so much.

This would require a team to actually need to send salary back.

We'll see what happens though, it's totally possible they'll be doing this on Monday.

It makes sense if they're making a run for Karlsson or Panarin this summer
