I love Horton but I'm wary of his concussion history.

Is Boston not showing much interest in retaining him?

he's been streaky scorer same with milan.. i dont think they will resign him due to the raises everyone is getting around him.. milan is 6m AAV, Seguin in 5.5, Marchad is over 4.. they prob wont based on that..

i would trade gabs at the draft, recoup picks and sign him.. hes a tougher/gritter fwd that would fit better with our crop, especially with Clowe addition.. only issue is hes RW..

Updated NYR Asset sheet before trade deadline

Now at the 50 contract limit
Still no numbers on Hughes

NYR Draft picks in 2013
  • 3rd round Nashville (for NYR 3rd round pick 2012)
  • 3rd round NYR
  • 3rd round Columbus (in Nash trade 2012, conditional - that NYR do not go to SC finals in 2013)
  • 4th round NYR
  • 6th round NYR

  • NO 1st rounder (traded to Columbus for Rick Nash... 2012)
  • NO 2nd rounder (traded to San Jose for Ryan Clowe in 2013)
  • NO 5th rounder (traded to Nashville for Nashville 5th 2012 - chose Tomas Spelling at #142)
  • NO 7th rounder (traded to Minnesota along with Eric "Crusher" Christensen for Casey Wellman 2012)
NYR Draft picks in 2014
  • 1st round NYR
  • 3rd round NYR
  • 4th round NYR
  • 5th round Florida (for Casey Wellman)
  • 5th round NYR
  • 6th round NYR

  • Eventually NO 2nd rounder NYR (conditionally traded to San Jose for Ryan Clowe in 2013 - condition being if he resigns with NYR or NYR get to ECF in 2013 - then San Jose gets the pick)
  • Eventually NO 7th rounder (conditionally traded to San Jose along with Tommy "horror-movie" Grant for Brandon Mashinter 2013 - condition being if he resigns with NYR then San Jose gets the pick)

The acquisition of Clowe and his salary-cap hit ($3.625 million) could cause a chain reaction that would result in the departure of Brian Boyle or others. Boyle, a 6-7 center, scored 32 goals in the past two seasons but has only one this season, in which he has sometimes seemed lost without his former linemate Prust.

“It’s weird — you follow along, and you hope you don’t hear your name,” Boyle said. “I’m sure there are some guys around the league who want to hear their name, but not me, not us. I want to stay here.”

Rumors abounded Tuesday that the Rangers would deal forward Marian Gaborik to San Jose or Boston — a trade that would certainly qualify as a blockbuster. However, Gaborik, who has scored 30 or more goals in seven seasons but has only nine this season, carries a salary-cap hit of $7.5 million.

With the league salary cap dropping by about 9 percent next season, there seemed little interest in such an expensive forward who is playing far below his past level.

2 40 goal seasons in the last 4 seasons.

So Neil Smith is on sportsnet talking about failed trades. Apprently he has a deal on the table of Adam Oates and Cavallini for turcotte and James Patrick. Roger neilson apparently nixed the deal. Smith didn't want to cross him so he pulled out. Mani would have told the coach to shove it.

Darren Dreger ‏@DarrenDreger

Brutal news out of Carolina. Pitkanen's ankle injury will end his season. Expected to be out 3 months. #TSN

Guess they will need McBain.

Still don't think they sell because they are still right there for their awful division.

That's what I figured too.

Short season+deadline tomorrow+3 pt games=teams might be fooled into thinking they're playoff contenders.

Guess you could say the same thing for us though.

So reports say we're looking to clear some money to give Clowe a contract

Boyle @ 1.7
Pyatt @ 1.55
Asham @ 1.0

4.25 million

Theres Clowe's contract.

Lets see if we can get a rental 3C and a rental dman tonight/tomorrow.

No rentals. I HATE rentals. They're like giving assets away for darn near nothing. Every deal should be made with the long(er) term in mind.

Pyatt will be moved. Asham is worth keeping and is good enough to play on the 4th line.

I will get killed for this, but they cannot currently move forward in trading Boyle UNLESS they trade Boyle for an upgrade at C or get someone else in a separate trade to be a 3C. Miller is not ready to be a 3C in the NHL. I know they want to shed salary, but they can do it in the offseason as well. This team will not compete with this down the middle this season:

Step, Richards, Miller, and Powe. Not possible. Too weak on the lower lines. Still need a 3C. If they can move Pyatt, they can bring in someone to fill that spot. Not for that price, but they do have some wiggle room.

Exactly Brooklyn, I agree there. I'm not down to give up a full 4th line for a rental.

There are positives to this; you can just roll with some combo of Miller/Kreider/Fasth/Powe as the fourth line and it is what it is for this year. I know Torts would have trust issues with them but it would be a great move to free up cap space long term and for next year a bottom six of Clowe/Miller/Hagelin/Lindberg/Fasth/Kreider plus a random cheap UFA vet or eventually one of Thomas/St. Croix/Jean/Hrivik/Yogan/etc might be young, energetic and CHEAP.

They can then get some picks back (albeit lower rounds) and maybe give up one of these newly acquired picks plus a lower end prospect for a rental like a Nystrom, White, Torres, etc. tomorrow.

I'm down with getting even 6th or 7th round picks for some combo of Asham/Powe/Pyatt/Gilroy and even Emminger although I really like and have been satisfied with him. Gordie and his staff have earned enough trust to find some gems in Europe. Those are also the kind of picks that you can be a little more risky with and just swing for the fences you might get lucky and find a Jonathan Erikson or a Luc Robataille.

Saw your post in the other thread

Asham is hardly playing here (though I like him), Boyle I like but he's got value and we can get an acceptable return- Miller should be playing the 4c slot, and Pyatt is useless.

We have capable 4th liners in Powe & Haley. I'd like to see them rent Nystrom. The key to keeping Clowe will be a cheap 4th line. A $5 million 4th line is too much with what we're paying our top-9.

For the 3c position, I think we're better off going for a rental as the slot should be capably filled by one of Miller or Lindberg next season.

For the RHD, it'd be nice to pry someone like McBain away, though I doubt he gets moved with Pitkanen taking a nasty injury tonight.

If Boyle gets traded, Torts will tell Sater to **** himself and quit the team.:)

Saw that I posted that Clowe is better than anyone in our top six, I like the addition but obviously I ment the bottom six. My brain simply doesn't work at 5 AM without coffee.
