Only thing that stands out now is Goncalves spot in the lineup. No disrespect to him, he is a good player and will only get better. But for now, get someone battle tested in there, who can handle the NHL playoffs on an everyday basis. Should be doable.

Somewhat good news?

His game sticks out like a sore thumb - I don't love the way that Chaffee plays but he at least makes an attempt to play big by hitting. I don't think that JBB would move an $800k player to leave us with $800k on the books if something else wasn't coming.

If they trade Sheary and get someone else to retain, they could still get Kunin. Otherwise, just by moving Sheary, they could get Maroon, or just trade for Jankowski without moving any cap.

He will get better after he gets healthy scratched and leaves us in free agency.

Just not sure if they have the sweeteners now to get someone to take Sheary, although I wouldn't hate trading another mid round pick if it does the trick. Could move Perbix and replace with someone closer to league minimum to gain an extra few hundred k. Kunin or Maroon would be great if the space is there. If they're talking to Nashville I'd go McCarron instead of Jankowski who is a big softie with the same output anyway. Not many other options around the league other than fringe lineup players or guys with higher salary like Kuraly/Hathaway who seem more likely to stick with their team.

It won't happen but Cuylle is low salary and Rangers are just out of a playoff spot. I'd throw Howard in a deal like that.

Still have his rights and he definitely has an NHL future. Slow and steady with his development but whether it's here or somewhere else, he has value and we're lucky he snuck through waivers.

I don't think the sweetener would have to be that great to move Sheary. Even if he didn't make the lineup of the acquiring team and contribute, his buried cost is only an 850k hit. Even for next season as well, I would think a 4th+maybe a late rd pick or low level prospect would be enough. I was in favor of moving Perbix, but now it's less clear. Having 8 solid dmen would be good for the playoffs, so trading Sheary could allow for McCarron or a similarly priced F plus a dman such as Hanley retained a little, Grzelcyk double retained I guess, maybe one of Blankenburg or Wotherspoon.

He may not produce but Girgensons isn't a bad overall hockey player. The lack of offense can be annoying but he can defend and plays his ass off, one of the few guys who actually uses his body. He'll be alright on the 4th line.

He basically plays with his stick upside down. Guy whiffs, fans, and misses everything. It's a very low threshold heading into the playoffs with someone like that. Hell, Maroon has bettered his last seasons total with us... in 24 less games, with half the penalty minutes. That's *the* slowest player in the league. Lol. He's a good 13th or 14th option but ideally, him or Goncalves get replaced tomorrow. I actually prefer Goncalves because the guy doesn't kill every play. You'd just have to limit his minutes.

I'll take Goncalves over Girgensons in the playoffs, at least he can create some offense. I liked Girgensons at the beginning but he's not snake bitten, he just truly sucks at offense and for a "defensive only" guy he fails to clear to puck at some critical times.

Also dude is 31 and hasn't played a single playoff game in his career, another reason to avoid trading for Buffalo players :sarcasm:

How’s the market looking for defensemen we can afford?
The Lightning have the top scoring defenseman in the AHL under contract in Syracuse. He is one of the bright spots for the Crunch this season and has been a steady rock throughout.

Derrick Pouliot 52gp 7g 37a 44pts +12 36pims 6ppg 85shots 8.2 shooting% 6'1" 205lbs shoots L 31y/o

Oh man, Colorado getting Nelson... they really got a deep and well rounded team now. But good that he's going West.

Dallas potentially getting Rantanen (long term) is insane, they really have built a scary team.

If I were JBB I'd do another magic trick and upgrade both 3LD and get one more bottom 6 guy.

Lilleberg can't be reilied upon come playoff time. His physicality is great, but he needs one more offseason working on positioning IMO.
Trade Perbix +, get a 3LD and keep Lilly as 7th.
And then I'd love to get M. Geekie (even tho he's actually a middle six lately emerging like a top liner lmao). Price would be steep (Gauthier + 2 2nd? I don't care, pay what they want), but he would also be a very good piece to get +re-sign, once we get him. That would put our depth to uncontested levels.
And imagine the mayhem having both Geeks brothers in the lineup, amping eachother up.

Wishful thinking I know, but JBB becomes even more of a legend if he finds a way to get us the missing Geekie
