We should track Sheary today the way Leaf fans tracked Mike Babcock when it looked like they were signing him (ooooh, Leaf fans...).

The first indication jbb has one more trick up his sleeve will likely be dumping Sheary's contract.

This is also the weirdest TDL I can remember in a while. We don't have VGK tossing someone on LTIR and trading for the Rantanen's of the world for a couple draft picks, a prospect and a 2nd line player they traded for a year and a half ago. It's borderline uncomfortable

I watched the third period of the Preds game last night. Blankenburg is better than his contract. If it takes a second round pick+, I don't think that would be a massive overpayment. They're just picks.

Isn't Mark Stone on LTIR right now?

Speaking of which, the new rumor is Brad Marchand is out until the playoffs. ...so, theoretically, does that not mean acquiring him wouldn't count against the cap?

I've got an AI doing this, so don't take it as completely accurate.
When a player on an expiring contract is on LTIR, they can still be traded. The acquiring club takes on the player's SPC.
  • Payroll Room: The acquiring Club must have sufficient Payroll Room to take on the Player's Player Salary and Bonuses. The acquiring Club's Averaged Club Salary will have the Player's Player Salary and Bonuses added to it.
Requiring the new team to be able to at least be technically able to take the new player on, without the LTIR, makes sense.

I thought it was Theodore but I don’t see it updated to capwages (it's the site I use) but that doesn't mean there isn't a plan. VGK always have a bang at the end and I'm sort of just waiting for it

CapWages not being able to calculate deadline cap space is disappointing. PuckPedia and thestanleycap.com has it.

Stanley Cap is probably the closest to CapWages in it's design.

Yeah, he has a place in mind or a ridiculous salary demand. This is the 3rd team he has done this to. I'm starting to wonder if he just hasn't said "screw it I got my ring"
He wants to be the highest paid player in the league until McDavid's contract comes up. And he probably thinks the biggest contract will come as part of a bidding war. Which is debatable, givem the 8th year. But maybe he doesn't plan to play for 8 years anyway.

Not wanting to play for 8 years makes a lot of sense. I can't think of anything else considering he has already turned down 2 "taxes R us" franchises in Carolina and Dallas, he's either demanding a very specific number in his term or salary or he's holding out for another location.

I don't know if you pay him more than McDavid though... I think I'd still rather have even Draisaitl over Mikko

JBB go and get us M. Geekie. Would also be a good add for his right shot.
Then roll into playoff like this:
Guentzel - Point - Kucherov
Hagel - Cirelli - M. Geekie
Gourde - Paul - Bjorkstrand
Chaffee - Glendening - C. Geekie

Imagine..

He probably just wants to hear what every team will do. With a rising cap, God knows the kind of numbers we are gonna see get thrown at him. I mean, imagine what the Sabres might do to bring that guy in?

Truly hope we don't go after Maroon.

If he has a similar impact to what Knies had when the Leafs signed him from the NCAA for the playoff... one can only dream

We are totally going after Maroon

Yeah. It may very well be that simple. Mikko in Buffalo would be an earthquake.

And don't you tease me with Maroon. I thought I didn't want Gourde but I did. I tried to reason myself out of Maroon too but I can't. He's one of the most ridiculous people I've seen in sports and I live for every moment of it

Well we shouldn't. Get a useful player, not an extremely slow skater that doesn't fit the mold of our bottom 6, and is now just a yapper that can't even fight anymore...
He couldn't really fight when we had him. But I do think there's something to be said for the way everyone else played when he was here. Everyone had an edge. And he seemed like the guy leading that charge.

It would be a tight fit trying to resign both Gourde and M.Geekie.
