Jt'hais Molson, Jt'hais (he doesn't like Molson)

Oh and he predicted Molson would hire a dummy french speaking GM that would do everything he wants (which was a shared feeling amonst some fans if I remember well).
Ahh I can hear it now thank you

I never expected him to be, but he looks really out of it right now. Man that 8million dollar contract.. yikes

Yup, another franchise C or forward.. maybe we can grab a decent blueliner with Calgary's draft pick
I like the idea of building a strong centre core, first and foremost. Hopefully the clear BPA that falls to the Habs, is a C (assuming their current place in the standings is where they end up).

We all fell for the 'in the mix' message that HuGo were saying at the golf tournament. What is disconcerting is that HuGo believed the message.

They have severely over estimated the talent on the roster, as many of us have as well.
There is no way to know if HuGo really believed they were in the mix. And whether they would have even said it if they knew Laine was going to be gone for 2 months.

To me, it smacks of a Geoff Molson directive but quite obviously, I’m just attempting to connect dots based on Geoff’s past actions and the type of catch phrases his underlings have propagated.

I doubt that Laine would have been enough to make a significant impact given how poorly his teammates have performed and how the team still needs high end quality pieces.

If you draft a superstar in a weak draft he’s still a superstar.

Slaf has produced really well for his age. This team’s drowning and he’s still managed to put up points. Long way to go but I wouldn’t give up the dream that he can be a special player.

Brendan Shanahan wasn’t Yzerman but he brought something special to the table. Just because Slaf isn’t Guy Lafleur doesn’t mean he can’t be a great player.

It’s a marathon and we’re only passing the first marker. Let’s wait on this.
Shanahan scored 50 goals twice and 40+ 4 other times. Hall of famer.

I'm calling it right now, no way Slafkovsky does that. His shot isn't great, wouldn't even call it very good.

I'm not saying he's a bad player and he can't play a great role on the Habs. I'm saying he'll never be the leader at generating offense. People are mentioning Gallagher - to me Slaf is a way bigger, stronger Gallagher. Gally was able to score 30+ twice, I expect a guy like Slaf to score 30+ maybe 5-6 times in his career, but ultimately he needs to crash the net and take the punishment to be the most effective he can be.

I doubt he gets more than 80 points more than twice in his career, unless he plays with Demidov (who'd have to reach his superstar potential) and some very high skill C we haven't drafted yet.

In your opinion, what did they do to not tank hard enough? What was their mistake?
Buffalo had some major problems in management and Eichel hated the place.
Those things were known and nothing was done.
And yes, they rushed the rebuild when they got Skinner to please Eichel.
It failed and they got back to zero, in a no man's land.

I don't think it will happen in MTL, there are too many good pieces, but it's not optimal.

Funny that MSL isn’t asking players to amene ta game a La game anymore. Feel like the players are leaving leur game chez eux and just coming to la game in name.

shame.
Some players have “flippé la switch” and have decided that they won't take advice from someone like MSL, who has been criticizing their performance. :sarcasm:

Slaf was never going to be a special talent. It was a very weak draft year.

He has special physical tools that he needs to use more, and he'll always be someone who needs to compete hard to have success. He's far, very far from the level superstars #1 picks like MacKinnon, McDavid or Bedard. At best I expect numbers similar to Hischier's, probably lower.

It's why we do need to continue to draft high. We need at least 1 gamebreaking talented forward, ideally two. Demidov could potentially be one of them. Then we'll need guys for the second and third line.
We managed to draft twice in a very weak draft. The 2022 top 10 is giving me 2012 vibe (2022 being slightly better). I don't see any real superstar coming from that top 10. Like you said, he potential is around Hischier.

What we need most is a game breaking center. We have a big hole after Nick Suzuki right now. We are on rebuild 4 and still no elite center prospect. I has sure we found our #1 center in 2022 with Shane Wright..... before he start bursting.

What version of the tank thread will we be on by April? This place is alive and well.

- Sharks up 1-0 in NJ. 10 minutes left. If they get a point we're alone in last.
- Blackhawks up 1-0 against Minnesota. 10 minutes left as well.
- CBJ-Anaheim tied at 1. OT would be great.

Yes I'm already tracking our bottom feeding brethren.

Assuming we manage to get either Hagens/Misa this draft and we let Dvorak+Armia walk, how does everyone see our lineup looking to start next season?

I could see something along the lines of:
  • Slaf-Suzuki-Caufield
  • Laine-Hagens/Misa-Demidov
  • Newhook-Dach-Gallagher
  • Heineman-Evans-Anderson
Our 2nd line would be moved to our 3rd line essentially, and we'd have an all new 2nd line that could have the potential to overtake our 1st line in terms of production.
Both Hagens or Misa would probably play in the third line at the age of 18. I can see Misa going back to the junior next year. Remember Slaf, Leo or Fantili first season in the NHL? Very few player can play in the top 6 at age of 18.

If Dach can't play center. Is possible Kent trade for a center with short contract.

If we finish bottom 3 that means we are at least 4 years away from being competitive. It may alo mean that the rebuild needs a reset.

Funny thing is that the supposedly dead wood Gallagher is our best player. What does that tell us about the core that's supposed to lead us to the cup?

We need a "I f***ing don't care anymore" thread. That's how I feel. I can no longer see us being "in the mix" on short or middle terms. The draft pick advantage won't be enough unless we're lucky and draft a generational player.

It does NOT mean any of those things.

I made the prediction during the Devils game that we would be last place overall after the weekend...

We'll see. I no longer believe in the organization. Too many years of mismanagement.

We won't go from last to being competitive in 2-3 seasons. I really don't believe it. It's why I wanted a slight progression this season.
