This rebuild is not that good. Some keep raving about the prospects but all I see is Demidov, Lane, and Fowler.

Hugo has a lot of work to do.

Dach , Newhook and Barron are fat Ls tbh

Barron is not a regular nhler
Newhook and Dach dont look any top 6 players also.
Why he went into this season with this D core is a complete failure. So inexperienced, and other than Guhle & Lane all the other young guys are 5/6/7/8s. Put that together with an inexperienced coach is a joke.

Only explanation is: he wasn't ready to cut ties with Xhekaj, Struble, and Barron, and he wanted to develop them. So he went with:
Matheson- Guhle
Hutson - Savard
Xhekaj - Struble/Barron

And in point if fact, only Struble and Hutson are inexperienced at this point. These are Guhle and Xhekaj's 3rd years.

Yeah I don't understand that move. This team needed a d-man this offseason kids or not but i guess they did bet too hard on Reinbacher...

Wifi is still green, coming into this season he had 95 games under his belt. Just looking at the core it is clear as day the 5/6 aren’t good enough and the top four are shaken at best. One injury or one guy regresses and they are hooped.

The D core is a complete disaster.

if they wanted to go that route they needed to have a defensive system that could support these guys. Right now Bombay has this team playing in a way that exposes the D horribly.

Hughes wasn't ready to give up on Barron and wanted to develop Struble at the NHL level. That's why he chose the 7 D he chose.

Were either of those mistakes in the long term? Maybe. But whatever happens in the short term doesn't prove that he was wrong long term yet.

Looking back at this summer, I would have liked for him to have signed Montour or Pesce to the deals they got. But even those deals, we'll see how they age long term.

Any love for McQueen? Love the size at 6'5". He's ranked pretty highly across the board and Elite prospects has him ranked 2nd. I don't know anything about him but his skill set scores are very decent. Maybe a good pick if we miss out on Martone? My interest is officially piqued

Kid looks good:

I think one lesson is that holding onto mediocre young players is a double-edged sword.

One one side you're hoping they reach their upside and on the other side they take up a space another young player or another veteran player could take up. Should they impress and improve, they'll have produced a disproportionate improvement to the roster: eg. a 5D becomes a 3D. Should they fail to reach their upside, they'll have caused a disproportionate impact on the trajectory of the team: a 5D does not become a 3D and the team is now down a 3D.

I think having the youngest d-corps in the league in a sloppy, fluid system has proven to be a bad idea and not particularly good for the development of the young defenders either.

If we don't get one of Martone/Misa/Hagens/Schaefer, I will light my car on fire and drive it off a cliff.
Donate it to Kars4Kids instead, provided they agree to abandon the tiresome jingle they bombard and pollute every media outlet with. 💀

Or, even better, hire a film crew, go to a remote area and do what this guy did when Tesla refused to cover the cost to replace his defective lithium battery unit.

This season is shaping up to be the worst of the rebuild so far.

They are bad in all 3 phases of the game. Offense, defense and goaltending.

At least in previous years 1 or 2 of those things were performing. This hard to watch.
