OT: 'Off topic' thoughts

Everything my wife bought on Temu has been really crappy. I got a couple of things through aliexpress, but I was ready to accept that it would be low quality chinese crap.

I’ve only bought tshirts and a lithium battery. The tshirts have been reasonable quality and the battery is still going strong after two years. I’d definitely be leery of anything electronic, though.

Has the display size of this page shrunk for anyone else? Lots of grey empty space now.

Anyone else still listening to Metallica?

It’s Mandatory Metallica every day in my world.

Has been since Kill ‘Em All first played on my record player…..

Has any other music nut gone down the Drumeo rabbithole? I’m fascinated with the series where they pair drummers with songs they don’t know with the drum track removed and get them to add their interpretation of what the son’s drums should be. It’s completely fascinating how creative and methodical these guys are. Below are a couple of my favourites……..

For this EP it was a hybrid. Drums were in a studio, rest was recorded in our space. Then a good engineer mixed it.

Good plan. Most everything can be tracked in a home studio with drums sometimes/often being the exception.

My son recorded his drum tracks for one of his bands EP’s in my studio and ended up busting a knob off of one of my compressors (GRRR!) I wanted him to do it Jeff Mutt Lange style and record each part separately (like cymbals only, then snare only, etc), but he wasn’t having any part of that. It turned out not too bad, but I think he would have gotten a larger sound in a larger studio.

I signed up for one year of Drumeo a couple of years ago. Even though I’m primarily a keyboard player, I do play bass and some drums (mostly percussion although I play some kit, too). It’s a great program with solid lessons and some great teachers. I highly recommend it.

That's pretty much what we're going to be doing. Get them drums nice and solid in a studio and then take our sweet ass time with everything else in our space 😂

That's how you want to do things. Nothing sucks worse than the added pressure of knowing you have about 3 takes to get things right, if not, your costs start to rise.

As long as you get everything right at the source (Read: know how to set up mics properly) and have some reasonably good mics; you don't have to use a Neuman 103 (although that likely wouldn't hurt...lol), excellent results can be achieved at home.

I wasnt too happy with the drums on our old release where we self recorded and then the engineer did the sound replacement and it turned out to be a mess. Here I got exactly the sound I wanted. TOo bad the other instruments ruin it haha

Where did ya guys track drums at? We're casually/slowly looking around at the moment

Yup.
But we also have all the time in the world cuz our singer moves back to Australia (he has contract jobs usually in T.O but stuff is up in the air) we got 9 tracks ready to go... We just keep jamming and writing new ones. He will have his work cut out for him hahaha.
