Some think it is par for the course of a rebuild. But that’s just a lazy assumption.

The mass regression is a coaching/tactics thing. It could be the case they roar awake and start soaring again with a shakeup. They’re not this bad, we all know it.
I honestly think the Habs overachieved in years 1 and 2 of MSL. Rebuilds to take a lot of time. We're still saddled by bad contracts and we lack speed and grit.

It’s more than that. We’ve seen Suzuki and Caufield put up pretty consistent analytics over the years. Both are way off where they normally are. The whole team’s messed up.

Hutson aside (rookie doesn't count), what Dman looks better this year than last year? What forward looks better other than Evans and Gallagher?

Both goalies have also been below average...it's crazy

Honestly, none. Caufield’s shot is back so that’s an improvement but his play hasn’t been good lately.

I’m genuinely interested in where the rebuild assets end up but in parallel to that I’m concerned about the losing culture around the team. It’s both at the same time.

We have definitely not seen all the fruits of the rebuild yet (with Reinbacher in the infirmity no less) — this is undeniable. Demidov is coming. It is quite possible he could be our best forward.

However, alongside the exciting young prospects we’re picking up, we have a quotidian concern: what sort of climate and environment are they entering? Do they have to try to adapt to the NHL *and* help rebuild the organization’s spirit? It seems like a tall ask and Buffalo is the poster child of it being a failure. Toronto as well.

Giving the prospects a softer landing is in the best interests of the rebuild.

So this thread must mean "we not in da mix" then I guess.

It's not that this team is losing games, which many expected again this season, but it's how they're looking while losing these games. Still early but it's a bit concerning to see this early regression from pretty much everyone.

ANA, SJS and us will be seriously stacked in a couple of years. Maybe CHI too. Those are some grade A tank job.

I don't disagree but this is what we have committed to and there will be ups and downs for several years until our early 1st round picks are aged 23-24. Look at all the early picks Anaheim have been stockpiling and they look more lost than us.

Even for Demidov, there's a going to an adjustment period to NA hockey that could last 1-2 years. Hage is probably 5 years away from meaningful contributions.

Agreed on giving a softer landing. I think we need more players with skill/sandpaper combo but 31 other teams are trying to acquire those players.

A lot of great candidates on who is the tank leader. Will be hard to replace Sergeant Petry and Commander Hoffman, but as a whole, we are doing our best to honor these greats. I think tonight was their way of paying tribute to these two, especially with Remembrance Day on Monday.
