Ordway was, is, and always will be a shithead.

I hate that f***er and I hate eei. I literally haven't listened since the early aughts.

As for 98.5, when it first started they did, in fact, talk Bruins. Not the overriding factor in building their early success, but certainly one of them.
My only point was that the lack of Bruins talk is not what did WEEI in. They were top dog without talking hockey. It's not like they became #1 by talking hockey and then lost it by not talking hockey. Not even close. And the Sports Hub talking a little bit of Bruins isn't what led to the seismic shift in ratings.

Angel Salcedo will join WCVB Channel 5, Boston’s News Leader, as a sports reporter for SportsCenter 5, effective Monday, June 5th. The announcement was made today by WCVB President & General Manager Kyle I. Grimes and News Director Margaret Cronan. He joins WCVB’s award-winning sports team of lead sports anchor Duke Castiglione and sports reporters Josh Brogadir and Naoko Funayama.

Originally from Massachusetts, Salcedo comes to WCVB from fellow Hearst Television station KOAT in New Mexico, where he served as a general assignment reporter, sports reporter, and fill-in sports anchor.

Fred is back?!?
Boggles my mind he gets free pass after free pass.

He relapsed and was drunk when he tweeted that stuff. He should not be on the air after being inpatient.

I grew up with a functioning alcoholic and have family members who have been sober for 30+ years. There is no quick fix here and it takes more than 4 days of intense therapy to come back into a job that just feeds into all his paranoia and anxiety.

I hope Hardy is able to help him with his story.

Listening to the podcast now, Fred sounds like he slipped up over the weekend but did the right thing going to detox and has it together again for now. Much less of a mess than I expected.

Very interesting though is that Rich was not on the show

I will not even touch on Fred's sobriety, etc.

My gripe with him is, and always has been simply his lack of ability to use the English language, and his sophomoric sense of humor.

How he got as far as he has, speaking for a living, without being able to complete a sentence is mind boggling to me.

Not that he's the only one with that issue these days, by any stretch, but I still don't understand how it's become so acceptable.

I don't blame Rich one bit. Guy has bent over backwards for Fred and he's got some very valid reasons for being out today.

The lack of empathy for Fred here is disappointing. Whether you like the show or not, its the highest rated show in the market, and for that Beasley decided to cut its budget. He has a lot going on. Divorce, addiction therapy, and hating your employer are traumatic life events. Luckily, it sounds like his parents and his ex provide a good support system. Rich had a scheduled day off, but I have no doubt that Fred's unreliability has not helped Rich's mindset when he clearly hates Beasley and is paying Lockhart out of his own pocket because of Beasley management decisions. Will be interesting what happens when contract renewal comes up.

Fred doesn't get empathy because all of his problems are his own fault.

While it's true that we never know the private side of public individuals and can't know what they're like behind closed doors, etc., when your entire schtick and persona is being an abrasive jerk and borderline bully on the radio and are open about not being able to control your drinking, I think it's a fair assumption that his wife walking out on him is at least somewhat related to that. And that doesn't garner a ton of sympathy.

All I know is that Fred's case stands in total contrast to Rich, who comes across as the nicest guy in the world but caught bad breaks with his wife having cancer and practically living across the street from the marathon bombing. Everyone feels horrible for him, but not so much for Fred.
