I still don't even know what's happening. Local channel 7 will remain but a new channel is being introduced and will take some of the programming from old channel 7? Dumb it down for me

What is about to happen has never happened in Boston TV history. We have seen ugly license revocations - WHDH to WCVB in 1972 - WNAC to WNEV in 1982 and Channel 4 becoming CBS and Channel 7 becoming NBC in 1995 but everything happened with an existing station.

There is a decent chance that the new WBTS (NBC Boston) gets a Patriots game on their very first day as who plays on the final SNF on NBC game is not decided until December 26th.

For those of you with Charter in Central Mass it could really get ugly as they are leaning towards picking up NBC out of Springfield instead of Boston and NBC/Comcast will fight that and it could mean no NBC for a few weeks or months in Central Mass.

It's possible but very unlikely since the supposed NBC standard is that the final SNF game is like an extra playoff game...one of those "for the division" etc games. Most likely it will be Green Bay at Detroit or (ugh) Houston at Tennessee.

True - but if top seed in the AFC is still in play then the Pats game will be in the mix. NBC wants the Patriots in that slot badly to promote the new station.

Central MA getting 22 out of Springfield would be great for them and WWLP. No one ever mentions central MA on the Boston news unless it snows.

Ansin’s WHDH will add newscasts in the morning to replace “The Today Show,†and during the evening primetime, including a new 9 p.m. broadcast. He has beefed up the newsroom, hiring 34 people, including reporters, anchors, and producers. The news operations now consists of over 230 part-time and full-time staffers. He is upgrading the station’s technology, and next week WHDH will reveal a flashier set.

All told, Ansin said he is easily investing more than $5 million on his relaunched station.

Those of you WITHOUT cable or on Charter - you should now be able to get NBC Boston on either 8.1 (inside 128) or 60.5 (inside 495). In New Hampshire it will be on 60.2.

On FiOS, it's 16/516. First weekday of programming just updated into my DVR. For the new WHDH, on Monday from 3 PM to 12 PM, it's literally three programs: Family Feud, Extra, and local news. Yikes.

I've always said that there's some days there's not enough global news to fit a 24 hour news network like CNN, MSNBC, or Fox. I can't imagine the need for 6 hours of local news over a 9 hour period.

It always seems unfair when things are less expensive for those who have more money to begin with: the new EZ Pass system is one example where those with access to credit cards (and some funds available to store in the EZ Pass system) can save a lot of money compared to those who pay my mail. I'm glad NBC is at least trying to boost their low signal; I don't have the info to say if it's "enough", but I don't like the idea of someone who just has basic TV (not talking about cord cutters per se who use Netflix etc., but who genuinely only use basic OTA TV) getting a good chunk of their programming ripped.

I can tell you that the 60.5 signal is as strong as 7.1.

I can't see how WHDH-TV 7 can survive without a network. :(

Well, for Boston it might be a refreshing change. The newscasts on the local channels (at least for the evening news) iare kind of a joke: Tease the weather, Quickly go though any fires, car accidents, burglaries, or murders in the area. Tease the weather. Sports. Weather. Spend the last five minutes fawning over Tom Brady.

I would have to think Joe Haggerty won't survive this either.

Bob Neumeier, Sean McAdam to be let go by CSN

With the dismissals — which, according to industry sources with knowledge of the situation, may not be the last ones Comcast makes — CSN loses two respected voices and an extraordinary amount of institutional knowledge on the Boston sports scene.

Neumeier is known as Neumy to anyone who is familiar with him — and pretty much anyone who has followed Boston sports (or horse racing, for that matter) over the last 40 years is familiar with him. The affable Neumeier has had an accomplished career though various high-profile gigs, including as a sports anchor at Channel 4, a horse racing expert on NBC, and for a couple of years a midday host at WEEI.

He had been at CSN since 2010. In May 2015, he returned to the network after making an extraordinary recovery from a stroke suffered the previous October, which required 5½ hours of surgery.

McAdam, who built his name as a Red Sox beat writer at the Providence Journal before moving to the Herald briefly and then CSN upon its launch in 2009, has been an informed voice-of-reason across various media, an approach that is not exactly in abundance nowadays. At CSN, he was one of the panelists on “The Baseball Show,” which was hosted by Neumeier.

The reason for the moves? As always, follow the money. Cord-cutting by cable subscribers is having a trickle-down effect on many regional cable networks. CSN, the home of the Celtics, also has decided to cut back on coverage of Boston teams with which they don’t own the broadcast rights. The Patriots, a huge traffic draw in-season, are the exception.

These high profile layoffs at CSN-NE does not bode well for the channel's future. Last month Comcast had major layoffs in Chicago where they are the only RSN in the market.

http://www.robertfeder.com/2016/11/...go-cuts-jobs-reformatting-programming-lineup/

If they are indeed phasing out Sportsnet Central it would explain why Trenni has sounded so desperate at times on WEEI perhaps hoping for a fulltime gig.

It has become obvious that Comcast had no plans to integrate CSN-NE with the new NBC Boston that launches next week and instead has hired new on-air people to do sports. Now according to Chad Finn CSN-NE will air many infomercials when it doesn't have a live Celtics game. My gut feeling now is CSN-NE will handover the Celtics and Revs to NESN and close the channel.

CSN-NE fought the good fight for seven years but in the end they were getting the same amount of viewers as NESN was for studio shows even though they were spending far more to produce the shows.

Bob Neumeier and Sean McAdam gave the channel credibility and I now fear Bruins coverage will vanish from CSN-NE as well. I certainly can't see Hags staying on air if they cut Sean loose. I can't see Felger being in their long term future either.
