Filppula confirmed he's not playing this weekend. He is hoping to return Wednesday in Calgary but can't be sure.

Also, no changes tomorrow.

Hopefully Filppula's return will push Abby out of the top six.

Injury update: Valtteri Filppula (left shoulder) practiced with the team Friday but said he's definitely out for the weekend.

“Getting there. Still, shooting is the biggest (issue),'' Filppula said. "Today, I felt better shooting than yesterday, but still having some issue. But skating feels pretty good.

“In my head I's kind of hoping for Wednesday (at Calgary). See how it feels after a couple more practices with the team.''

Said Babcock: "I see (Darren) Helm (back) was skating before us and Fil was skating with us. Looks like we have guys on the horizon.''

I don't want to screw up the chemistry that is oddly working right now. When Flip comes back to the top six, I would rather one of Cleary or Abby get scratched instead of messing with the bottom six.

agreed and it should be abdelkader so he maybe gets his head turned around right and sues it as a wakeup call

cleary is and should be done as a DRW

It'll be interesting. Andersson is playing really well. My guess is Eaves gets bumped and Abdelkader moves down. When Helm, Bertuzzi and Samuelsson are ready, that creates some real problems.

"Defenseman Carlo Colaiacovo (sprained left shoulder) had a setback. His return isn't on the horizon."

Haha Cola, just hang em up already.. originally he was supposed to be out 4-6weeks, it's been close to 2 months now.

Buy out incoming

Wow, that really sucks for him. Even if he came back though he would be a 7th D-man. I guess this means Ian White stays with Detroit throughout the year then. I'm kinda more worried about Helm/Flip though.

Helm turns corner: Holland said center Darren Helm, limited to one game (Jan. 25) because of a torn muscle in a disc, could return after this trip.

“Helm appears to have turned the corner,'' Holland said. “He's skating every day, no setbacks. The issue now is fitness. Don't expect him to play in Western Canada, maybe between the Minnesota and Anaheim games (March 20-24).''

This is great news! It sucks that we will probably have to send someone down / put on waivers, but having a really solid 3rd line C and pushing down Andersson to 4th C /PKer can only bring good things, right?

That's still 4 or 5? games away. Andersson would be sent down and Emmerton becomes the 4th line center.

Either that or Miller or Eaves is waived.

This is the best case scenario, in my opinion.

Ansar posted an article that suggests Nyquist could get a shot if our scoring woes continue:

Holland said they are contemplating recalling Nyquist from the Grand Rapids Griffins. He leads the AHL with 60 points in 57 games (23 goals, 37 assists).

“We're aware of his accomplishments, we've had conversations about him,'' Holland said. “Let's stew on it.''

I saw Babs mentioning somewhere that they are expecting him to be back next week.

I bet they want to take extra precaution with him. Get him mentally ready.
Helm can't go out there and think about injuries, getting hit etc, he just needs to go out and skate like the wind and play bigger than he is.

Can't quote it since I'm on my phone, but Kulfan tweeted that Helm had a setback and Wednesday is a pipedream.

**** me!

Yeah.. Re: that:
Ansar Khan @AnsarKhanMLive said:
Helm called it a minor setback, he hopes. Will take it day by day and see how he feels. No decision yet on whether he goes on Calif. trip

Also on Bert:
Ansar Khan @AnsarKhanMLive said:
Bertuzzi (disc issues) said he hasn't improved much, skated for 5 minutes last week, didn't feel good. Still hopes to avoid surgery.

Thing is, a minor setback is a major one this season. Wings have 19 games left to play and the games are going by in a hurry.
