I don't take part in this year's draft, but definitely a good pick, especially at that point, I don't get this board's hatred of him. (I look at you WTK ;) ). The big reason why I didn't participate is because I haven't watched much if any junior hockey (besides the WJC) this year and it has always been my golden rule to only draft players I've seen several times (and ideally a couple of times live). All this to say, I'm curious to hear why people hate him so much as a prospect.

As a Moose fan who has gotten to see him play many times over.. there's just not much to like. He's completely invisible and horrendously average most nights. Progression since he came into the league isn't really much to write home about. I don't really see any upside in him as a player. I honestly don't think if he wasn't a coaches son, that he wouldn't be a conversation for a selection before where Durandeau went.

I think it's more contextual 'hate' than anything, nothing really against him. Groulx looks like the ultimate 'safe, good without the puck potential' guy, which is alright, except in our situation (and that's only my opinion) where we need high-end skill, and I don't care if they're risky, the organization just has to do its friggin job and develop them properly.

But, like I said, it's more contextual, he's a center, too, and we're in dire need of centers. Let's say he's still available in the late 2nd, I'd pick him without hesitating (I doubt he'll be there, though he dropped in the rankings for a reason, offensive potential isn't awe-inspiring)

With our first pick in this year's NHL Entry Draft, the Nashville Predators are proud to select, with the 93rd Overall Selection, from the Medicine Hat Tigers of the the WHL, forward RYAN CHYZOWSKI.

"Ryan Chyzowski is an fantastic player who has a future in this league. Ryan possesses a fantastic shot, has good speed, and the work ethic to succeed. He knows where to go on the ice and how to make space for himself. Ryan never takes a night off, he's always going full throttle. We're very excited to add a player of this caliber to the organization this late in the draft."

Was on my short list, love his shot and nose for the net, kid just want to score, and he's fun to watch because of that.

With the 96th selection, Arizona Coyotes are proud to select, from Windsor Spitfires, F Curtis Douglas

douglas-curtis.jpg

"Massive forward at 6'8 and over 200lbs, he is more then willing to use that size advantage. He can be a physically dominating force battling for pucks along the wall. Once he plants himself in front of the opposition net, defenders are unable to move him. And he uses that enormous reach he possesses in all zones to break up plays. Despite the tall frame, Douglas is a deceptively quick skater. However, continuing to work on his overall skating is a necessity. Agility, first step speed and a breakaway gear could stand improving. His size could hinder that, but even a small improvement will help him succeed at the next level. Douglas is a smart player who almost always makes the right decisions whether in the offensive zone or defensive zone. He has extremely soft hands and can make plays. He has excellent vision and can sometimes make plays out of nothing. He could at times though slow the pace down allowing his linemates to get into lanes or danger areas. He has the ability to find them and if he did so, he could become even more dangerous offensively. He has an excellent work ethic and on many nights is the hardest worker on the ice. He can score the dirty goals but can also beat you with a shot. When he is totally engaged, he can dominate the offensive zone. Definitely a project, but at this point, why not ?" First time I see his name, what explains his awful production before the trade?
Depth chart. No room for him. He was injured his first year and when he came back, he wasn't very good. So he never moved up the chart.

My pick was between him and Chyzowski. But Chyz just has a better shot and his effort level rivals Gallagher.

Thanks for the precision lads.

It seems to me, at the very least stats wise, that Groulx is a year ahead of Durandeau in his development. Groulx is also a center (premium) and is definitely more of a complete player, especially on the defensive end, although Durandeau is no slouch in that department. I don't doubt that his name makes him worth more in some eyes.

With the 99th pick in the 2018 NHL Draft the Las Vegas Knight are proud to select from the Baie-Comeau of the QMJHL
Gabriel Fortier LW 5’9.5” 163Lbs
upload_2018-5-8_21-44-42.jpg

Speedy, hard-nosed undersized center who plays a 200-foot game and competes hard every shift. Fortier is a threat to score in any situation, including while on the penalty kill. He’s shown great patience and a soft touch around the net, and he’s capable of setting up chances off of board battles. Fortier is more of a finisher than a set-up guy, but he plays a high-speed game and the puck always seems to find him.

Ill be surprised if 100 players get picked in front of Dunkley. Good value there.
