Official Francesco Aquilini Thread

Serious question, Pegula or Aqullini?

Aquilini is a much better owner. He may shortchange his farm workers but the Canucks have been a first class organization (or close to it).

Pegula lets his wife, family, and friends run the franchise and reportedly created a toxic culture. Reportedly, Kim Pegula had a slide presentation where the message was that she expected the sports franchises to make enough money to sustain their lifestyle.

Just stop it man. Are you related to Aqua? Not even Iain McShill is jumping in front of bullets for Aqua like you do.

The team is run so awful lately, it does make ya wonder about these last few guys who will do anything to deflect blame on Aqua and/or Benning. The world is round but for a few I guess its still flat

Some people just like to be contrarians and disagree with the general consensus because they like the attention they get from all the replies. It's almost tongue-in-cheek posting. You probably have to live a pretty suboptimal life if you need to shill for Benning/Aquilini to get attention on an unsuccessful hockey team's message board for enjoyment.

This guy is so f***ing dumb

He's a good cautionary tale of silver spoonism. If you give your kids everything and never make them work for anything, they won't develop the right skills to be successful. They say wealth only lasts three generations, but Francesco Aquilini is really doing his best to change that to two generations instead.

The rot starts at the top!

Which GM in their right mind would want to work for this guy. Dude clearly has some sort of Trump syndrome where he is a fool surrounded by yes-men and lives in his own reality.

And I'm sure he thinks he is the smartest one in the room.

It's pretty clear to me that his hand has been in a lot of Benning's decisions as well. He's protecting himself as much as Benning.

Lol. It's Ballard and Wirtz for the new generation.

Intentionally damaging the brand.

I mean I'm sure the shows and networks definitely won't be talking negative about the canucks now!

They may have badly miscalculated and lost the media here that has been so sympathetic to their failings.

Just astonishing levels of arrogance. How dare you report that our terrible team is terrible!

It's a tight group across all stations and platforms despite differing opinions. And they are still recovering from the radio station stuff not so long ago. I don't believe this is going to go over well at all.

That's my guess, that FA has been involved in a lot of these things, if not directing them, actively discussing them and agreeing with them, I wouldn't be surprised if he and Benning really are deciding big things together, and hence it's hard for FA to just throw out Benning when these were joint decisions. If there's any degree of integrity then it would be not blaming a guy for something that you were involved in, and even denying FA that benefit of the doubt of integrity, it's still probably psychologically hard for him to accept that these decisions were bad and he needs to bring in a guy who is smarter than what FA and Benning were seeing together.

No.

Ownership had such an easy out by just firing Benning and letting competent people take control. Instead they've managed to do everything possible to turn the crosshairs on themselves.

keep in mind this is not just fa. he is no way a mastermind. he is a figurehead ceo / inherited wealth owner who happens to have overly involved himself in hockey operations, the way the son of a theatre owner might get overly involved in the staging of a broadway play because he is chasing the actresses. he may dabble in the rest of the business but i don't believe he set the course of the ss canuck even if he walks around the bridge barking orders.

this is a very large business. my impression is the business side is run at arm's length from hockey operations and with the very different priority of making money. they report to the family, not just fa, and they have their own agenda. it seems that the family has until now ceded the hockey operations side to fa as his plaything subject to the requirement he not affect the bottom line. but i do not think they have ever let him run and oversee the main business. i think that would be the job of the professional people who actually run the aqualini empire for the family. they would report to the entire family.

now as for marketing, i wonder if it is the business side or aquaman running the show? i would tend to think the business side is very involved. so if we see something like clumsy retaliation against journalists hurting the bottom line, you may be (a) seeing evidence the business guys are really concerned about the team going off a cliff like this and (b) seeing evidence the aqualini family approach in general may be just as clumsy as fa.
