Nobody I know in real life cares one iota about this team. All the kids at the local rinks cheer for good teams or McDavid.

Those corporate seats “count” but they’re also empty A LOT.

My 20 year old kid who played 11 seasons of minor hockey doesn’t care. None of the friends do either.

Everyone I know who used to follow the team now follows different sports. Mostly football and basketball.

i split time between vancouver and las vegas and i have to beg and plead people to go to a canucks game with me whereas everyone i ask in vegas is excited about going to a game

Ack, it gets cut off:

Holy shit! So f***ing good!

I really appreciate your work.

Is the fanbase lost? Seats are still filled.
It's a Canadian market that had its NBA team stolen. And the metro area has grown substantially since the last period of doldrums. They have a monopoly – the seats are never going to be empty. But there is unquestionably less interest than there would be if the team were a contender, and it blows my mind that they can't do the math.

Moreover, I think it's really crass for the team to invoke those years of maximum fan interest with tweets like this, without detecting a hint of irony over their refusal to do what it takes to return there.

It's probably not really even a drop in the bucket but a few people I know who are STH aren't renewing, and there's a lot of talk on social media of the same. That's how you get a message across to FA.

Could just be the people you know? It's expensive to go to a game. I have friends who are "event goers" and friends who think it's a waste of money. On average, I do find that my American friends are typically more excited to go to sporting events.

On a scale of 1 to 10, how mad is FAQ that the Boston Bruins are the best team in the league, and have had sustained success since 2011, while the Canucks have been bottom dwellers for much of that time?

Outside: 0/10, don't worry, he got this, he got Boston right where he wants em.

Inside: 9000/10, his pitiful and fragile ego is taking a beating every single day, as other teams with fewer options become more successful.

Maybe you're right.

He's probably more mad that Benning lied to him about OEL being a good player.
Oh i miss read your question, I thought you were asking us how mad we were.

I still say one because I think his ego probably doesn’t allow him to feel bad about stuff.

I could see FA actually making a push to make that deal and Benning being the lukewarm one about it. I don't think there's much coincidence in that every GM that has questioned FA's approach was quickly terminated.

honestly when you’re that rich and have been your entire life consequences don’t exist

superficial things like unwanted outcomes for your hockey team that make you look like a f***ing idiot is just a thing that you can act like will eventually change because rainbows come out of your ass as a matter of due course

at the end of the day you drive your three hundred grand car home and let the people you pay tell you how excellent you are

Benning gushed and gushed about OEL to the point where I almost believed we were getting the next franchise D of the future.

Its been well documented that the loss to the Bruins warped FAQ a bit.

He chased a sports psychologist around the world and pleaded for him to join the Canucks so he could "fix" the psyche of the players after such a devastating loss.

He pushed for the Canucks to become a Bruins copy. It was the beginning of his meddling days.

I never believed that he was a Franchise level D still, but his statement proved to me that he was a Target of Bennings. That and the fact he chased him for as long as he did.

I heard a rumour that other members in management would approach Benning about their concerns of OEL’s decline over recent years. During that year that Benning pursued OEL, his rebuttal to others’ concerns involved pulling out his 2015-2016 Upper Deck OEL hockey card, flipping it over to show them the stats table, and grinning like a maniac

I wonder if the Ottawa Senators getting bids for +$900mm USD would give the Aquilinis reason to consider selling.

They originally bought the team and arena for what—$250mm?

Is one sedin going bald?

Canucks arena is getting a bit 'long in the tooth'. Isn't the Sens arena kind of new (ableit I think not in a great location)?
90% of the value of Rogers arena is in its location.

Wouldn’t shock me if the day they do choose to build a new arena—they use the same footprint and just build even bigger towers on top of it.

Yeah plus the surrounding real estate which the slumlords I think own a good chunk of. They'll only build a new arena if they can somehow get the taxpayers to front a good part of the bill (unlike the previous owners of the team). Cheapass wouldn't pay for a $40,000 computer for his kid.:sarcasm: Good luck with that given the number of homeless around the city (corporate welfare for $$$$'s).

Probably just perpetuating rumor here but I thought they've been quietly been interested in selling the team for a while -- but not the land or the arena. Which effectively kills a sale because anyone buying the team will want to own the arena or build another. (But where?)

The Canucks have an open prospectus on a variety of land deals around terminal avenue for a new practice facility.

See where it goes, but I doubt it.
Over on evans avenue for sure they were looking at through their holding company.
