Official Francesco Aquilini Thread

The real kicker is that Benning and Green will have jobs after this, since they are so buddy buddy with other people around the league.
Let's hope oilers or flames hire Jimbo. MAybe he can weasel his way into a GM position and destroy them :).

Why are you counting your chickens before they hatch? Jim is still here, and there's no indication he's getting fired before he gets to hire another coach.

Saturday's game between the Leafs and Buffalo shows what happens when the fan-base has basically checked out and his zero faith that management will ever turn it around. The Key Bank Arena in Buffalo was basically deserted, and it was really jarring because the game was on HNINC.

Normally a lot of Leaf fans would drive down for the game, but the COVID testing requirements probably discouraged people. Nevertheless, the Canucks expansion cousins in Buffalo are hitting all time lows these days. And we're in danger of it happening again in VanCity.

It's one thing for fans to lose total faith in the GM and coach. But when they have no faith in the owner either....gradually they just drift away. But maybe that's the only thing that will get Aquilini's attention.

Well said.

Right now, 95% of fans want Green fired. And 95% want Benning gone too. But the root cause of the Canucks' organizational disfunction comes from the top: Francesco Aquilini and his associates. In a video game, Green and Benning would be the lower-level villains you meet during the course of the game who are in reality the pawns of the Big Boss (Aquilini) who you only meet in the climactic final level.

How do we get Aquilini to stop micromanaging the franchise and hiring stooges like Benning to run the team? He either needs to sell the franchise or hire a competent President to oversee hockey operations while he GsTFO of the way.

Thoughts?

HFVancouver should compile a well written and detailed report to send to the bigger Aquilinis who don't understand hockey but are pissed about the Canucks hemorrhaging money

Nobody will ever read it, but we can dream

Don't worry folks, a successor is being groomed.

Anybody here that thinks a new GM is going to have free reign without interference is going to be in for a nasty shock.

Nobody thinks that, you're just trying to justify your defense of Benning.

We need to do whatever we can to right the ship and the best thing we can do is fire this GM. We don't even know the details of what plans Aqua has given to Benning, all we know is Benning has been making the moves and he has f***ed this franchise big time

Not justifying Benning at all..in fact, I was fully expecting him to not be re-hired this season ..Fact is, ownership has had major involvement in all 3 GM's ..Nonis, Gillis, and Benning/Linden.

Nonis/Gillis built us up and got us to game 7 of the SCF and multiple Presidents Trophies and Benning took a steaming dump on all our chests. One is not like the others

I wasnt comparing GM's...merely saying that there has been ownership interference on all three.

Just listen closely to what Nonis says especially near the end regarding trading rookies to make the playoffs, without actually naming FA he hints at what he was pressured at, it was obvious.

And here's another fun one just for the fun of it.

On the Nonis topic, anyone remember when Aquilini said this about him:

A well-placed Canucks source, however, claims Nonis was fired because Aquilini found him to be “the most disloyal guy you’ll ever meet in your life. He didn’t care about winning, he didn’t care about success in the organization, he only cared about survival, self-preservation.” What Aquilini wanted “and what Nonis did, were two different things,” says the source.

It speaks a lot about Fredo that he would publicly assassinate a former employee's character like that. It's a common theme we've seen over the years as a guy with questionable ethics and a fragile ego who burns bridges with everyone.

Plain and simple… if you want to send a message then don’t buy a ticket! Our rink has been full/ nearly full so far this season. $ talks, not our endless rants on social media.

I think the narrative that Aquilini meddles is just an excuse for terrible planning and execution from management.

It’s obvious he was seduced by the same stuff that seduced the simple minded folks in the fanbase: Calder candidates, bubble success etc

Option 1: FAQ is a meddling owner who micromanages to the point of picking the music to play during stoppages.

Option 2: FAQ is just a simple minded fan taken in by the devious Benning.

Personally, I think 1 is far more likely than 2 (and I nearly gagged typing "devious Benning").
