44 points as an 18 year old coming from a European league. On pace for 56 this year (without injuries) and that's not results? Damn, I guess it's because he doesn't play on the Canucks.

He plays on a worse team and hasn't been playing NA hockey his whole career like Hughes/Makar. All the while he came in at 18 instead of getting another year to develop. I get you're a Canuck fan but I don't think a single GM in the league would take Hughes or Makar over Dahlin.

As for Calder, Hughes has a legit shot of winning and has been playing better lately. I think he's a better all around player compared to Makar anyways.

I think Dahlin gets to the same tier. Right now he's not there. But I'd bet on him to

And I find it adorable that you think so
And I think you're naive if you think it doesn't. Hughes has yet to play a game in 8 NHL cities, so this will have been the only time some of the media from those markets will have seen him play live. You don't think they will have taken notice of a rookie defenceman leading the tournament in scoring?

No. It's a non-game. It's a gimmick. The writers don't take it seriously. At least they shouldn't. Maybe the Canucks beat reporter will be swayed.

In the other thread I likened it to the RNH/Landeskog year where RNH had the same amount of points but in 20 less games and still lost. It’s not the most impressive rookie award, games played are a part of it as well and clearly matter to voters.

We're talking about the same league where half the writers don't stay up late enough to watch western conference games. For a lot of east coast writers, this will be one of the very few times they get to see Hughes in action, and it will absolutely have an effect.

Should it have an effect? Absolutely not. It's a joke game where players are just messing around.

Will it be a huge effect? Probably not. Makar is still comfortably ahead for now.

Tough to tell
Media votes on it, and a vast majority of the voting members still comes from the east coast.
So I dont know how Makar and Hughes are viewed on the East.

Quinn Hughes wasnt even in 2nd place according to I think the hockey writers a couple weeks who had samsonov as 2

Hughes was robbed of an assist today too.

He’s been outstanding and has completely changed the present and future of our team. It’s a great Calder race with him and Makar both exceeding expectations.

The PPG difference between the two is enough for there to be a noticeable separation. Makar needs to hit a cold streak or Hughes needs to pop off.

I don't think they take the age difference into account so really as primarily an offensive defenceman Hughes just has to flat out outproduce Makar in the remaining games. It'll be tough.

At some point playing a larger number of games has to work in his favour right? Kind of like Pettersson vs. Binnington.
Yes at some point, but i don't think voted awards that are largely dictated my offensive production (Selke, Norris, Calder) are going to see 1p in 10 more games as a substantial reason to take Hughes over Makar.
He'll have to continue to build upon that points lead for the gp to matter less and less

That's fair. Whatever happens in the last 30 games or so should decide it, the way it should be!
