Whenever you have the opportunity to sell low and spend twice as much money to fill a marginal backup position with players off the street, you have to do it.
He's one injury away from maybe playing 33% of snaps, pretty much exclusively on running downs.
I don't know if it's just me but I'm going to wait more than one half of preseason football before declaring the season over.
Bears will probably go 0-16 and Gooddell will fold the franchise33% of running plays means the opposing offense is going to have big day on ground
That's really bad if you are cutting your first round pick only 2 years later...when it had nothing to do with injuries.
What part of 4M dead cap hit do you not understand?
Cap space to sign FA when guys get hurt during the yearIf he's bad at football anyway, there's nothing to be gained by keeping him around...
Yeah because he still has about $2M in signing bonus money and $2M in guaranteed base salaries for this year and next year are guaranteed. Thus it's about $4.1M in dead money if they cut him. So there's three optionsUnlike hockey's, I am not well versed in the NFL cap. So how does that work? There's an additional hit if they cut him or something?

Cut him now, put $4.1M in dead money on the books for this year, and sign someone who most likely also sucks to take his spot.
Cut him as post June 1st cut, put $2.25M in dead money on books, " ", and have $1.8M in dead money next year.
Or keep him for this year at $2.2M and see if he can salvage any value at LB. But of course he sucked in the first half against Philly and the book is closed.
Most likely they will cut him after this year and save 800k for next year, but it wouldn't be HF Hawks without hysterics over a backup LB.
LBJ, Manziel, and RGIII all in the same town
mercy
ESPN doesn't know what to do with itself.
What's the point of cutting him as of right now? Is a guy they pluck off the street really going to be any better?
Shea is a McNown caliber mistake at this point
This is BRUTAL hyperbole.
McLellin was a 19th pick overall picked to fill a role on defense. It sucks he is a 1st round bust just like say Chris Williams was at OT. But neither bust compares to missing on a supposed 1st round franchise QB you traded up to get.

Not really. One was a 12th pick, the other a 19th pick. It's not like they traded up in to the top 5 for McNown. Both are busting out fast. I would say it was a good comparison.
